Snapchat is introducing a new in-app tool to enable parents to get more insights on how their teenagers use Snapchat. The new ‘Family Center’ feature will show parents their children’s friend list and who is communicating with them without being able to view the content of their conversations. To use the tool, parents will need to have their teen add them on Snapchat. Parents will then be able to confidentially report any concerning accounts connected with their child using the ‘Family Center’. ‘Family Center is designed to reflect the way that parents engage with their teens in the real world, where parents usually know who their teens are friends with and when they are hanging out – but don’t eavesdrop on their private conversations,’ Snapchat said in a blog post announcing the tool. ‘Our goal is to help empower parents and teens in a way that still protects a teenager’s autonomy and privacy. We look forward to continuing to work closely with families and online … [Read more...] about Snapchat allows parents to monitor who their teens are talking to on the app

Snapchat allows parents to see who their teenagers are talking to
Snapchat will allow parents to monitor who their teenagers are talking to, without prying on their private conversations. The social media app popular with teens will launch a new tool called Family Centre, which links to their child’s Snapchat. It requires parents to have an account on the app and to be friends with their child’s account. The safety hub will show parents who is on their child’s friends list and who they are talking to, but will not allow them to access the content of their chats. Parents will be able to confidentially report accounts they are concerned about to the tech company’s safety team. Snapchat said: “Family Centre is designed to reflect the way that parents engage with their teens in the real world, where parents usually know who their teens' friends are and when they are hanging out – but don’t eavesdrop on their private conversations." The company said the new feature would protect “a teenager’s autonomy and privacy”, while boosting safeguards . … [Read more...] about Snapchat allows parents to see who their teenagers are talking to

Snapchat to let parents keep an eye on their kids’ friend list when they chat on the app
Parents and guardians will soon be able to keep a closer eye on how their teens use Snapchat, thanks to the app's new Family Center feature. The new feature lets you see who your kids are messaging on their friends list but without letting you see the content they're sending. Both you and your child must accept an invite, and once you've done so, you'll be able to see their friends list and who they've interacted with over the last week. READ NEXT: WhatsApp users could be fined for sending 'banned' types of message if caught out The tool will even let you report suspicious or concerning accounts to Snap's safety team to ensure your kids are using the app safely. Can Snapchat be monitored by parents? As soon as the tool goes live over the next few weeks, it will be possible for parents to monitor their children's use of WhatsApp. The changes follow criticisms of Snapchat as being unsafe or even 'dangerous' for kids. What is a tongue tie in babies and can it be fixed?
The changes you’ll go through as a new parent can not be underestimated. Post-partum recovery, new ways of sleeping (or not so much of it) and breastfeeding difficulties are just some of the challenges new mums can face. But along with the new adjustment come many joys and it’s important to remember all newborns are different and will adjust at their own pace. One common issue that parents face is trouble feeding and while this may be due to breastfeeding and not latching properly, it can also be because of tongue-tie . So what exactly is tongue-tie? Well, in short, it is where the strip of skin connecting the baby’s tongue to the bottom of the mouth is shorter than usual. This means that babies with tongue-tie generally can not open their mouths wide enough to latch and feed correctly. It’s not hard to imagine the consequences of this. A very hungry and restless little one that will have difficulty settling and sleeping is frequently reported by concerned … [Read more...] about What is a tongue tie in babies and can it be fixed?
Can you make a theme park trip luxury? We go to Fairmont Windsor Park to find out
It might be hard to believe but we might have found the secret formula to getting over a hot, sweaty day with the kids at a theme park. Fairmont Windsor Park has launched a Legoland package and while kids’ days out and luxury don’t often go hand-in-hand, we thought we would give it a try to see if it’s worth the hype. We can confirm, yes it was. Parents will know that a day out at a theme park needs some psyching up, not only is it mentally taxing but also physically – especially if your little one is too young to ditch the buggy but wants their own independence to march around. Legoland is a wonderland for children of all ages. It was busy, with some rides up to 60 minutes long, meaning they were quickly ruled out as my two-year-old does not have the patience to wait that long so I would definitely advise on getting an upgrade on the tickets to fast track. Racking up the steps, you find yourself in awe of the majestical sculptures built out of Lego which was totally … [Read more...] about Can you make a theme park trip luxury? Celebrities rebel against Instagram boss as he tries to match TikTok
Among the photo captions of his 500-year-old house in Lindos, Rhodes, Jasper Conran had some advice for Instagram’s chief executive. With its ornate door knocker and mosaic floors, the house has remained in its original form for five centuries, Conran wrote. The British fashion designer had captured this stillness in photographs, for years the defining feature of Instagram that made it popular with celebrities and brought in billions of dollars in advertising revenue. But Conran expressed a growing frustration over a redesign that millions of users feel is being forced upon them by the social media app. “Please don’t let us down in the frankly callous way that you appear to be doing. Make Instagram Instagram again; either that or create a parallel platform that doesn’t wipe out the existing one,” he wrote to Adam Mosseri, Instagram chief at Meta. He warned the app threatened to “kill off the skill and hard work that so many millions” have put into photographs. Instagram is … [Read more...] about Celebrities rebel against Instagram boss as he tries to match TikTok
Sir Nick Clegg returns to London in latest Meta move
Sir Nick Clegg is to join a string of senior Facebook executives moving to London after four years in Silicon Valley, despite predicting that an “economically insecure” Britain would hemorrhage tech businesses in the wake of Brexit. The former Liberal Democrat deputy prime minister, 55, who is president of global affairs at Facebook's parent company Meta, is to divide his time between homes in London and California after his return to Britain. Sir Nick – who left the UK to work for Facebook's billionaire founder Mark Zuckerberg after losing his seat as an MP – has made no secret of his longing to leave California, saying last year that his "heart belongs massively 5,000 miles away". However, the decision is nonetheless likely to raise eyebrows given his history of outspoken warnings about the damage that Brexit would do to UK plc – particularly in the industry in which he is now employed. In a 2017 interview, he said: "Pretty much everyone I speak to in the tech sector … [Read more...] about Sir Nick Clegg returns to London in latest Meta move
Gurinder Chadha: ‘People get defensive about the British Empire but it’s our shared history’
When she was growing up, film-maker Gurinder Chadha was captivated by a photograph which took pride of place on the mantelpiece in her family’s front room in Southall, west London. For years she assumed the dashing man in a jewel-bedecked turban must be a relative; only later did she understand his true significance. “He was Maharaja Sir Duleep Singh, the last king of the Sikhs,” she says. “He ruled Punjab, my ancestral home – vast, powerful territories stretching from Afghanistan to China.” That is, until Duleep Singh was deposed by the British Raj, exiled to Britain as a teenager and forced to give the Koh-i-Noor diamond, the most dazzling of his dynasty’s treasures , to Queen Victoria. For Chadha’s family, that photograph was symbolic not just of past glories from the land of their forefathers, but of the deeply complex shared history between two nations – Britain and India - that had brought them as immigrants to this country. “As soon as you mention the word ‘Empire’, people … [Read more...] about Gurinder Chadha: ‘People get defensive about the British Empire but it’s our shared history’
California is no Garden of Eden. It is now a woke basketcase whose rich and poor are fleeing alike
That Nick Clegg has become the latest Facebook executive to announce he’s fleeing Silicon Valley for Blighty , where he will spend half his time, says a lot about California. Britain is on the brink of a deep and protracted recession, with inflation set to rise to 13 per cent. Formerly thriving people will struggle to feed their families, heat their houses or go anywhere, since the railways are riddled with massive strikes and airports are chaos. We are lazy: even now, there is an acute labour shortage as people prefer not to work. And we are angry: GP surgeries, call centre staff and shopworkers have all reported a surge in abusive behaviour. Even so, basketcase Britain seems to be preferable to California. It’s not just Clegg: Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, owned by Facebook parent group Meta, and the firm’s chief marketing officer Alex Schultz, have also chosen to relocate to Britain. Clegg, who six months ago was promoted to head of global affairs at Meta, in charge of … [Read more...] about California is no Garden of Eden.
