Stephen Doughty: MP sorry for asking constituent for diazepam
Published 2 May 2021 Share close Share page Copy link About sharing A Labour MP has apologised "unreservedly for any error he made" by asking a constituent for prescription-only anxiety drugs. Byron Long claimed to the Mail on Sunday he gave his MP Stephen Doughty up to 140 diazepam pills during up to 20 meetings at a Cardiff coffee shop. Mr Doughty's spokesman categorically denied the paper's report. But he said the MP did ask his "friend" Mr Long for "a few spare diazepam" once in 2019, to take ahead of a flight. The spokesman added: "To the best of his recollection, at the time he was panicking, had been unable to get to a GP for an appointment, and as a friend who he regularly shared confidential personal mental health worries and anxieties with, asked Byron if he had a few spare diazepam, which he had previously been prescribed for such circumstances, and taken without any … [Read more...] about Stephen Doughty: MP sorry for asking constituent for diazepam
Two-Card Monte: Why Mastercard And Visa Rarely Shut Down Scammers Who Are Ripping Off Consumers
Paul Paolucci, the top cop for one of the world’s biggest credit card companies, sure had some interesting friends. One made a fortune fronting for pornography websites that needed access to Mastercard’s and Visa’s payment networks. Paolucci, who oversaw Mastercard’s merchant fraud control, was photographed cavorting around the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel with him and a group of women in white corset minidresses. A second was a Lamborghini-driving e-commerce mogul with whom Paolucci used to celebrate family holidays. The mogul ended up in prison for a financial crime he committed, in part, using Mastercard’s network. An executive at a famously corrupt European bank claimed to have dined with Paolucci and gotten his help evading Mastercard’s regulations. It was Paolucci’s job to make sure that the banks and companies using Mastercard’s network were playing by the rules. He bent those rules himself by getting close to the very kinds of high-risk businesses he was supposed to be … [Read more...] about Two-Card Monte: Why Mastercard And Visa Rarely Shut Down Scammers Who Are Ripping Off Consumers
How Gen Z is hooked on cryptocurrency and NFTs
By Mariko Oi Published 14 hours ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing The lure of making a quick buck has always attracted young people to invest in risky assets. For Generation Z, it is the volatility - and the decentralised nature - of digital assets such as cryptocurrency and NFTs which appeals. But they are unregulated, meaning there is little investor protection. "All my friends were talking about [cryptocurrency] so one day I just decided why not just jump in and see if I can make some money," says 20-year-old Paxton See Tow. All he needed was his phone and trading thousands of dollars' worth of assets was only a click away. Generation Z - also known as Zoomers - are the age group born between the mid-1990s to early-2000s. They grew up online, playing games and meeting friends virtually, so the transition is natural. Cryptocurrencies are digital currencies while … [Read more...] about How Gen Z is hooked on cryptocurrency and NFTs
Store guard questioned Buffalo shooting suspect during earlier visit, documents show
Two months before Payton Gendron allegedly killed 10 people at a supermarket in Buffalo, in the US, he was confronted by a security guard at the store during a trip on which he compiled detailed plans of the location, according to a document posted online in April by a writer who identified himself as Gendron. “I've seen you go in and out ... What are you doing?” the guard asked Gendron on March 8, according to an account in the document. Gendron replied that he was “collecting consensus data” before making excuses and leaving for his car, according to the account, adding: “In hindsight, that was a close call.” The encounter with the guard at the supermarket was described within a 589-page document posted online on April 29. The document refers to the supermarket as “attack area 1” and describes two more Buffalo locations as other attack areas to “shoot all blacks” during an apparent reconnaissance trip that spelled out the travel paths to each one, timing needed for each … [Read more...] about Store guard questioned Buffalo shooting suspect during earlier visit, documents show
Twisted Buffalo shooter has UK obsession and sick manifesto of ‘high profile enemies’
Grieving relatives of Payton Gendron’s victims and locals yesterday told of their devastation after the white supremacist’s murderous rampage left 10 people dead. The twisted 18-year-old killer launched his racist massacre after calling for London mayor Sadiq Khan to be slaughtered and published a 180-page hate-filled manifesto. Two people were also injured and 11 of those he shot were black. He also mentioned a number of UK towns and court cases, including the Asian grooming gang trial in Rotherham. Gendron live streamed the bloodbath as he tore through the Tops Friendly supermarket in Buffalo, New York, on Saturday. He had reportedly scrawled the N-word on his rifle. Payton Gendron ( Image: Erie County District Attorney/AF) As the first of the gunman’s victims were named last night, it emerged police were alerted to him last year after he threatened to shoot fellow students. ‘I lied to them for months’: Buffalo shooting suspect kept plans from family
For months, as 18-year-old Payton Gendron formulated a plan to kill dozens of black people in Buffalo, New York state, he worked to keep his racist plot a secret from his family, according to Gendron's postings online. "I literally can't wait any longer, my parents know something is wrong," he wrote on April 15, musing about when to carry out a planned shooting that took place on Saturday, killing 10 people at a Buffalo supermarket. The writings were uploaded to internet file-sharing sites in two batches in recent weeks after apparently being posted on the messaging platform Discord from November 2021 through early May. They reveal a teenager intent on keeping his parents in the dark not only about preparations for mass murder but also about the quotidian details of his life. They help fill out a portrait of a young man who described himself as isolated from family and as someone who had few friends and found refuge in hate. Nintendo Switch Sports Review: Motion controlled madness returns in a fun but fleeting sporting title
Nintendo’s "Sports'' series is finally back in motion after 15 years with the new Nintendo Switch Sports. The new sports-themed motion-controlled game tries to build on the success of the 2006 game that pioneered motion controls - the Nintendo Wii hit, Wii Sports. The original Wii Sports was made up of simple sports minigames that demonstrated brand new motion-controlled technology, using the player's movements to correspond with actions in-game. This not only proved fun and hilarious to watch, but it also lowered the entry requirements for more casual gamers causing a huge surge in the popularity of the seventh-generation console it was bundled with. ( Image: Nintendo) Wii Sports only had 5 games, while Wii Resort had 12. Switch Sports sees some new and some returning games to the simple formula with six games: Volleyball, Soccer, Badminton, Tennis, Bowling, and Chambara, with Golf also being added later in Autumn. The graphics are clean looking and colourful but … [Read more...] about Nintendo Switch Sports Review: Motion controlled madness returns in a fun but fleeting sporting title
