The Northern Irishman went down 6-5 to Clemens after missing a match dart to win the second round clash in Trier. The game was played out amid a partisan atmosphere, with Gurney being regularly booed and whistled as he went to throw. Gurney, nicknamed, SuperChin then took to Twitter, initially posting: “Lots of boos and whistles again … not the best [German flag emoji]. America’s Necessary Myth for the World
F or European officials and politicians, a great fear gnaws at the back of their minds when they look at the ongoing war in Ukraine : What happens if the United States loses interest? Despite the war being in Europe, involving European powers, with largely European consequences, America remains the essential partner for Ukraine. For most of Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, and Britain, in particular, the reality that Ukraine would likely already be lost were it not for American military support has only proved the intrinsic value of living in an American world order. For others, including the French, such dependence is now a source not only of shame, but of long-term vulnerability. America might care enough to supply Ukraine today, but with Donald Trump limbering up for his second shot at the presidency , it doesn’t take a huge leap of imagination to picture a time when this is no longer the case. And as French President Emmanuel Macron has warned, whichever American president is … [Read more...] about America’s Necessary Myth for the World

In the finale episode of How to Start Over, we explore how regret can be a catalyst of change, what holds us back from self-forgiveness, and how to reconcile our past mistakes—and move forward for good. Today we learned January 6 wasn’t a directionless coup attempt. It was a targeted attack
“A handful of election officials in several key states stood between Donald Trump and the upending of American democracy.” That quote from Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) wasn’t hyperbolic. It was the straightforward truth that served as the defining theme of today’s hearing. The witnesses this afternoon were among that handful of election officials who stood against Trump’s attempted coup. Their testimony focused on the former president’s multi-state campaign to pressure state legislatures and election officials to overturn the 2020 election. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, Georgia Secretary of State COO Gabriel Sterling, and Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers all testified about Trump’s pressure campaign and debunked his voter fraud lies. They are all Republicans. As if that weren’t damning enough, to close the hearing we heard from Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, a Georgia election worker who was attacked and threatened over the “suitcase of ballots” conspiracy theory. This … [Read more...] about Today we learned January 6 wasn’t a directionless coup attempt. It was a targeted attack

What we just heard about Trump, Pence and Giuliani on January 6th was beyond the worst-case scenario
They knew. They all knew. Today’s hearing focused on Donald Trump, John Eastman, and his allies’ effort to pressure Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the results of the 2020 election on January 6. According to testimony, key players in Trump’s inner circle — including Trump and Eastman themselves — knew that Pence overturning the election would be illegal, but pushed him to do it anyway. In other words, they knowingly launched an illegal attempted coup. The two in-person witnesses today were Pence’s former counsel Greg Jacob and retired federal judge Michael Luttig. Luttig is a well-respected conservative legal icon; so much so, he’s been considered for a Supreme Court nomination in the past. Ted Cruz and John Eastman were clerks for Luttig, and Pence reached out to Luttig ahead of January 6 for advice. Luttig advised that he did not have the authority to overturn the election. The hearing today went on to outline a damning timeline of events that would’ve read like a … [Read more...] about What we just heard about Trump, Pence and Giuliani on January 6th was beyond the worst-case scenario
US Experts Head to Egypt to Probe Shark Attacks
Shark attacks at Egypt's Red Sea resorts, famed for their reef diving, are rare. The attacks on snorkelers and swimmers over the past week at Sharm el-Sheikh, on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, are believed to involve two oceanic whitetip sharks, which normally do not get close to beaches. The attacks turned fatal on Sunday. A shark tore the arm off an elderly German swimmer, killing her almost immediately. Days earlier a shark badly mauled three Russians and a Ukrainian. Authorities have indefinitely closed the beaches to swimmers and barred anyone from entering the water except for professional divers. Environmentalists have theorized that overfishing and a declining ecosystem could be driving sharks closer to shore in search of food. There are also accusations that tourist boats are illegally dumping meat into the water to attract sharks for passengers wanting to photograph them. Still, a third theory says sharks have been drawn to the area by the crew of a ship … [Read more...] about US Experts Head to Egypt to Probe Shark Attacks
