Martin Lewis’ MSE explains exact date energy bills will go up under new Ofgem rules
Martin Lewis ’ MoneySavingExpert website has explained the exact date when energy bills would rise under new Ofgem plans . Despite what its name suggests, the energy price cap isn’t an absolute cap on bills. Instead, it sets a limit on the rates a supplier can charge for each unit of gas and electricity you use. The price cap jumped on April 1 from £1,277 to £1,971 a year for those on a default tariff who pay by direct debit. This marks an increase of almost £700 on top of the average energy bill. The energy price cap is currently reviewed twice a year, every six months. This is based on wholesale gas prices from six months previously. Are you worried about paying your energy bill? Let us know: [email protected] But MSE has explained that there will be four dates through the year when the price of bills could change, if the Ofgem plans go ahead. In addition to current April 1 and October 1 dates where the new price cap comes into effect each … [Read more...] about Martin Lewis’ MSE explains exact date energy bills will go up under new Ofgem rules
Ofgem rules could keep energy bills high when wholesale gas prices drop
Household energy bills could stay high even when gas prices drop under plans by the energy regulator to extend a scheme that penalises companies offering cheap tariffs. Under new rules brought in by Ofgem, energy companies will have to pay households' existing suppliers if they want to offer a cheaper tariff when wholesale prices fall. The change has been criticised as "terrible" for millions of households struggling with the cost of living . Soaring global wholesale prices pushed the energy price cap to nearly £2,000 in April – a 54 per cent rise – and are expected to lead to another spike in October. Ofgem's policy runs until September, but the regulator is considering extending it indefinitely – a move consumer groups say could lead to permanently high prices for households. "Essentially, it will make it quite unlikely that prices would actually drop much, even if wholesale prices dropped. It'd be difficult for consumers to find huge savings out there," said Richard … [Read more...] about Ofgem rules could keep energy bills high when wholesale gas prices drop
Jurgen Klopp resumes calls for five subs as injured Trent Alexander-Arnold ruled out for ‘weeks’
Liverpool’s quadruple bid has suffered a major setback after Trent Alexander-Arnold suffered a hamstring injury during the victory over Arsenal. Manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed the right back will be absent for ‘weeks’ - ruling him out of Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final with Nottingham Forest, and forcing his withdrawal from the England squad. Liverpool will hope the 23-year-old is back in time to face Manchester City for what could be a decisive meeting in the title race on April 10, but Klopp will have to call on one of James Milner, Joe Gomez or youngster Conor Bradley to deputise for the weekend’s fixture. "It’s tricky. We will see how long it will take,” said Klopp. “To replace Trent is difficult, but possible. We have James Milner and Joe Gomez and theoretically we can change the system as well. Trent is so influential but Milner has done incredibly well in the past. We'll see how Milly is for Sunday. "Maybe we have a very young solution (Bradley) as well." Twitch partner program changes mean more ads and less money for streamers
Streaming platform Twitch is currently looking at ways to increase its profits by paying streamers less. The dominant streaming platform as of right now, Twitch is looking at new ways to alter the partner program and its method of paying streamers. Amazon bought out Twitch in 2014 , for $970 million, and in the efforts to turn a profit on the purchase even senior staff members have become disillusioned enough to leave, let alone the content creators themselves. Twitch currently pays members of its partner program 70% of the subscription fee to their channel, taking 30% for themselves. However, the platform is considering ending this in favour of a 50/50 split, putting livelihoods at risk as Twitch also pushes for more advertising. More ads on Twitch Twitch currently runs a pre-roll ad when loading a stream and will periodically play them again while you watch. Streamers can also control when adverts happen. That means that in some cases the current method … [Read more...] about Twitch partner program changes mean more ads and less money for streamers
