A lawyer says an illegal pub run from a Hells Angels gang pad is similar to moves made by the New Zealand Defence Force to curb drunken antics by soldiers in Palmerston North. The submission was made during the sentencing of Lyall Charles Henwood in the Palmerston North District Court on Thursday. He was fined $2000 for allowing people to run the bar at the gang's Palmerston North pad. The maximum fine was $40,000. Waka Kotahi contractor uses stolen identities to take out fraudulent loans
A computer specialist hired by Waka Kotahi used his access to driver licence databases to mislead police, create a false identity and take out massive loans in other people’s names to pay for methamphetamine. One of those people had their life ruined, going from a near-perfect credit score to one so bad he could not rent a house. David Allan Davies, 38, claims he was pressured into the frauds by gangs to pay a drug debt for a boarder. But that boarder, who was believed by a judge, said there was never a debt and Davies had to fund his own meth use. Taupō District Council on ombudsman’s workshop hit list
Taupō’s council has welcomed a review by the Chief Ombudsman after being named as one of eight councils to be investigated for possibly “undermining local democracy” by using workshops to make decisions behind closed doors. Taupō District Council (TDC) chief executive Gareth Green said all the council’s workshops were open to the public, unless they contained material that would meet the requirements of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA) to be publicly excluded. On Thursday, Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier announced he had launched an investigation into concerns that councils were undermining local democracy by using workshops to discuss issues and make decisions behind closed doors. “There is nothing to prevent councils from holding workshops, but I am concerned at reports that some councils may be using them to avoid their responsibilities under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987. How a UFO ‘got into a DOGFIGHT with a US fighter plane for 30 minutes in 400mph chase that left his jet radioactive’
A US fighter pilot was reportedly left shaken after he spent 30 minutes duelling in the sky with a white shape that appeared to totally outclass his fighter plane. Lieutenant George F. Gorman was a veteran World War 2 aviator but was stunned by the eerie encounter he had in the skies over Fargo, North Dakota . And his so-called "dogfight" with a UFO on October 1, 1948, is one of the most baffling encounters from the early days of the phenomenon . Gorman is alleged to have witnessed a bright white ball of an object which seemed to totally outclass his P-51 Mustang. Serving with the North Dakota National Guard at the time, the pilot was on a training mission when he spotted the object at around 9pm. It was also seen by those on the ground and a civilian plane - but when Gorman flew to intercept he ended up in a game high speed cat and mouse with the shape for 27 minutes. ‘Petty’ note left on car windscreen sparks parking row as some brand it ‘childish’
A "petty" and "childish" note has sparked debate after being left on a car windscreen in a seaside town. The hand-written letter informed the driver the street is a “residential road and not a car park” and asked the driver to park elsewhere. The driver’s “highly disappointed” mum took to Facebook to vent her anger over the letter. She said she has been parking in the Colwyn Bay road in North Wales to work twice a week for the past four months and was not causing any problems, Nor th Wales Live reports. The mum added: “I would suggest that the person who wrote this note contacts the local council if they have a problem with the parking outside the property - instead of taking their frustration out on a young lad who just wants to work for a living and not cause mischief around the town like others his age.” The letter read: "Hi there, it has been noted that you have been parking outside out home on an extremely regularly basis these past couple of weeks. "Yet you … [Read more...] about ‘Petty’ note left on car windscreen sparks parking row as some brand it ‘childish’

China threatens to open mass ‘re-education’ camps if it invades Taiwan in chilling echo of Uyghur genocide
CHINA has threatened to impose “re-education” on Taiwan to make its citizens “patriotic” if it successfully invades the island. The warning is a chilling echo of the policy of mass re-education camps in China where millions of Uyghurs have been held , which has been described as genocide by several countries. China regards the democratic and self-governing island of Taiwan as being part of its territory and vowed to re-unify it with the mainland, by force if necessary. Beijing was infuriated when senior US politician Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan and launched six days of war games around the island, which encroached just a few miles from its shore. In the wake of Pelosi’s visit , two of China’s ambassadors said that Beijing would impose its will on the population by re-educating them to think correctly. “We will re-educate,” Lu Shaye, China’s ambassador to France to local TV.
