Iran did a deal. Iraq got bombed back to the Stone Age. North Korea was invited to tea. Unbeknown to the 500,000 tourists who visit it each year, it seems that Salisbury Cathedral is built on an inter-dimensional whirlpool which sucks evil down towards hell like sand in an hour-glass. The presence of these unwitting pilgrims, walking widdershins around the cloisters, merely speeds up the spiritual centrifuge. Hence the bemusement of Russian spies who, on an entirely-heterosexual visit under false names to the East End of London, found themselves dragged towards the bewitching building. They broke free of its unearthly tractor beam only when they dropped a bottle of perfume that Ruslan had bought as a gift for his mother, and was unfortunately past its sell-by date. Caught in the Salisbury swirl, the liquid mutated into a … [Read more...] about Is Salisbury Cathedral part of a new Axis of Evil?

However they see Amazon, for good or ill, residents of the fastest-growing city in the US largely agree on the price Seattle has paid to be the home of the megacorporation: surging rents, homelessness, traffic-clogged streets, overburdened public transport, an influx of young men in polo shirts and a creeping uniformity rubbing against the city’s counterculture. But the issue of Jeff Bezos’s balls is far from settled. “Have you seen the Bezos balls?” asked Dave Christie, a jewellery maker at a waterfront market who makes no secret of his personal dislike for the man who founded and still runs Amazon. “No one wanted them. They’ve disfigured downtown. Giant balls say everything about the man. Bezos is holding Seattle hostage.” It’s not strictly true to say everyone is against the three huge plant-forested glass spheres at what Amazon calls its “campus” in the heart of the city. The Bezos balls, as the conservatories are … [Read more...] about Is Bezos holding Seattle hostage? The cost of being Amazon’s home

CRUEL dog owners are dumping their pups over Christmas - because they can't be bothered to put them in kennels. Some of holidaymakers even try and adopt the pooches back after the break is over. The Australian Animal Protection Society made the shocking claim after an influx of pets being dumped on their doorstep. The charity's Vice President Sue Thompson said: "Quite often people go overseas for Christmas holidays and because it costs so much for kennels, they would prefer to get rid of them." Others even leave gates and doors open while they leave so their pets can escape. She added: "Some people leave a huge bag of food and what they think is enough water in the backyard for their dog, but it can end up nasty."Fae Pawley from the Lost Dogs Home said it was "definitely a trend coming up to the holidays" - adding that her North Melbourne shelter is overcrowded with cats and kittens because owners didn't neuter their pets. Carter worked at the Premier League club for 20 years and was described on their website as the “top man on security” at their then training ground Spurs Lodge. He was a popular figure and even played golf with players. One of his victims suffered post-traumatic stress disorder after the abuse.
