THINK Orlando, think Mickey Mouse. Theme parks dominate most breaks to the holiday hotspot in Florida – but it has plenty more fun on offer, too. WILL SPENCER skipped the lure of Mickey to try out airboating, crocodile-feeding, hot-air ballooning and a funfair ride so frightening he can barely believe it is legal. Here’s how he got on . . . Airboat ride SORRY Disney, but the real magic kingdom is out here on the Everglades. I’m on a 500bhp airboat roaring over a vast swamp. Everyone on the boat wears ear defenders but we often stop to soak up the beauty and peace. The sun is setting, birds are roosting and the odd alligator peeks out from the swamp brush. Feeding steaks to humongous, fearsome alligators. Free-falling 300ft out of the sky. Watching the sunrise from onboard one of America’s largest hot air balloons. From the comfortable and conveniently-located Ramada Plaza off International Drive, our action-packed week began at the intriguing (but hauntingly-named) Gatorland. Proudly calling itself the world’s “alligator capital”, it holds over 2,000 of all sizes - from grunts (babies) to 14-foot monsters. I even got the privilege of holding one of the tinier ones - named ET because of the shape of his head markings. Panto is a chance to put your worries aside and boo and cheer – says Lee Latchford-Evans – and that is exactly what he and the rest of the cast of Aladdin at Worthing’s Pavilion Theatre gave me and many others on Saturday. I went along to this year’s panto offering from Paul Holman Associates and Worthing Theatres with my mum and my two children, aged three and nearly six, so we had a good range of ages for the cast, led by Steps’ star Lee as Aladdin, to impress. My mum said it was the ‘best panto she had ever seen’ and that it made her laugh more than any other had done – and she has seen her fair share of pantos over the years. My son Barney loved it from start to... when he fell asleep ten minutes before the end! That is not a bad sign, though, he had been dancing, shouting and clapping non-stop all the way through. My daughter Ruby was in a world of her own, mesmerised by it all and fully engaging in all of the must-do panto … [Read more...] about Pantomime review: Aladdin brings fantastic fun to Worthing’s Pavilion Theatre
