Austria has suspended vaccinations with a batch of AstraZeneca's coronavirus jabs as a precaution following the death of one person and the illness of another after the shots. A 49-year-old woman died as a result of severe coagulation disorders, while another 35-year-old woman developed a pulmonary embolism, an acute lung disease caused by a dislodged blood clot, and is recovering, the Federal Office for Safety in Health Care (BASG) said. The agency confirmed it had received two reports 'in a temporal connection' with a vaccine from the same batch in the district clinic of Zwettl, Lower Austria. A batch of AstraZeneca has been suspended after Austrian authorities were informed of the death of a 49-year-old woman as well as another woman who developed a pulmonary embolism. Black Lives Matter in Brazil: A mother fights for justice for her dead son
She lights a candle on the second day of each month. Mirtes Renata de Souza, 34, is mourning her son Miguel. Eight months ago, on June 2, 2020, the 5-year-old fell to his death from the ninth floor of a high-rise in the city of Recife, Brazil. Mirtes Renata, a maid working for a wealthy family, took her son to work that day — she had no one to care for him because of a coronavirus infection. When she went out to walk the dog, she left the child alone with her employer. The owner didn't bother with the child. Nor did she retrieve him when he left the apartment and got in an elevator to go find his mother. The 5-year-old exited on the ninth floor and ended up in an unsecured part of the building, eventually falling to his death 20 meters (66 feet) below. The child's story shook Brazil, already reeling from the coronavirus. It also made his mother Mirtes Renata de Souza the face of Black Lives Matter (BLM) in Brazil. The Black Lives Matter movement that grew relentlessly around … [Read more...] about Black Lives Matter in Brazil: A mother fights for justice for her dead son
Devastated single mum left with nothing after family flee house fire in their pyjamas
A devastated family watched their house go up in flames within a matter of minutes after narrowly escaping the blaze in their pyjamas. Christine Baarman, 38, and her two children Tyreece, 12, and Kacey, 19, lost all their belongings in the sudden inferno and have been left homeless. At 6.20am on Monday, neighbour Lesley Blair heard voices shouting: "Fire, fire" and looked out of the window to see plumes of smoke billowing from the family's roof. Within moments the whole house was alight and Leslie was unsure if her neighbours had made it out alive, she told EdinburghLive . The fire spread with such little warning that teenager Kacey didn't even have time to put shoes on before running outside. The family were left without a roof over their head for 10 hours and has since been moved into temporary accommodation more than 12 miles away from the remnants of their old home. Lesley, from the same area in West Lothian, Scotland, said: "It was 6:20am in the morning and I heard … [Read more...] about Devastated single mum left with nothing after family flee house fire in their pyjamas

Google image search cements national stereotypes of ‘racy’ women
Google Images is the public face of everything: When you want to see what something looks like, you will probably just Google it. A data-driven investigation by DW that analysed over 20,000 images and websites reveals an inherent bias in the search giant's algorithms . Image searches for the expressions "Brazilian women," "Thai women"or "Ukrainian women," for instance, show results that are more likely to be "racy” than the results that show up when searching for "American women," according to Google's own image analysis software. Similarly, after a search for "German women," you are likely to see more pictures of politicians and athletes. A search for Dominican or Brazilian women, on the other hand, will be met with rows and rows of young ladies wearing swimsuits and in sexy poses. Screenshots of Google image search results for "German women" (left) vs "Brazilian women" (right) This pattern is already visible to the naked eye and can be attested with a simple search … [Read more...] about Google image search cements national stereotypes of ‘racy’ women
