GMB’s Piers Morgan hit with Ofcom complaints after mauling health secretary Matt Hancock in ferocious interview

· March 3, 2021 ·

PIERS Morgan has been hit with Ofcom complaints after mauling health secretary Matt Hancock in ferocious interview. Angry viewers lodged official complaints about the row that aired on Good Morning Britain two weeks ago showing the host blasting Mr Hancock's "woeful" management of the Covid crisis, which has killed more than 120,000 Brits. Telly watchdog Ofcom told The Sun 151 people had reached out over Piers attacking Mr Hancock when he said his NHS buying team should be "thanked" for sourcing PPE during the coronavirus pandemic. It all kicked off when Piers grilled him on why he hadn't apologised after a court found he had acted unlawfully by failing to publish details of dozens of PPE contracts the government signed during the pandemic. A defiant Health Secretary insisted he wouldn't say sorry, before insisting there had been no "national outage" of PPE after Piers accused him of a "barefaced lie". Piers then showed a picture of NHS staff wearing binliners at the … [Read more...] about GMB’s Piers Morgan hit with Ofcom complaints after mauling health secretary Matt Hancock in ferocious interview

BT chief Jansen gave board ultimatum over chairman’s future

· March 5, 2021 ·

Philip Jansen, the chief executive of BT Group, gave boardroom colleagues an ultimatum over his own future that led to the departure this week of the company's chairman, Jan du Plessis. Sky News has learnt that Mr Jansen told fellow directors of the telecoms giant over a period of several months that he had become frustrated with the speed at which BT was taking key strategic decisions. The BT chief, who joined in 2019, indicated that he was prepared to resign unless Mr du Plessis was replaced by a chairman who could accelerate the pace of change at the former state monopoly, according to several people close to the company. Mr du Plessis, one of the most experienced chairmen in corporate Britain, said on Monday that he would leave once a successor was identified. He has chaired companies including SAB Miller, the brewer, and British American Tobacco, and held non-executive directorships at Marks & Spencer and Lloyds Banking Group. COVID-19: 1% pay rise for NHS staff ‘the most’ the government can afford, says minister Nadine Dorries

· March 5, 2021 ·

A 1% pay rise for NHS workers is "the most" the government can afford due to the economic cost of the COVID crisis, a health minister has told Sky News. The government is facing a furious backlash - led by the Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer - after calling for health care staff in England to be restricted to a pay rise of 1%. Live COVID updates from the UK and across the world But Nadine Dorries said it "would be wrong to say a single person in the government does not appreciate the effort" of NHS staff, as she defended the decision not to recommend a larger pay increase. "Of course, we recognise the sacrifice and the commitment and the vocation of nurses and all health workers over the past year," the minister said. Advertisement "We've all been touched by, or personally experienced, help by NHS workers. "But I think it is important to note that the priority of the government has been about protecting people's livelihoods, about … [Read more...] about COVID-19: 1% pay rise for NHS staff ‘the most’ the government can afford, says minister Nadine Dorries

Legendary TV show You Are What You Eat is being rebooted — without Gillian McKeith

· March 5, 2021 ·

IT has been nearly 15 years since Gillian McKeith became known as the Awful Poo Lady for looking at the contents of dieters’ toilets to help them shift weight. And I can reveal that the classic telly format You Are What You Eat is making a long-awaited comeback. But it will not be on Channel 4 or fronted by Gillian. I’m told legendary TV presenter Trisha Goddard , who is making a big UK comeback following a decade in the States, will host the reboot. It will air on Channel 5 later this year. A source said: “It’s a great format and one that was really well received back in the day. “The production company, CPL, were keen to breathe new life into it, and who better to do that than Trisha, who is so well loved and respected by viewers. “They hope she will bring a fresh impetus to a popular show. And Channel 5 were delighted to give her and the series a new home.” Trisha — signed to leading UK agency InterTalent — said: “I am thrilled to have been asked to … [Read more...] about Legendary TV show You Are What You Eat is being rebooted — without Gillian McKeith

Susanna Reid slams Piers Morgan’s ‘fragile masculinity’ and says he’s ‘arguing with an empty room’ in Potato Head debate

· March 1, 2021 ·

SUSANNA Reid slammed Piers Morgan's "fragile masculinity" and accused him of "arguing with an empty room" in a heated debate about Mr Potato Head. The 55-year-old star was left fuming last week when Hasbro revealed they'd ditched the "Mr" from their umbrella Potato Head brand name - although male and female versions remain available to buy. Piers kicked off today's Good Morning Britain by ranting about the move, which baffled Susanna as she repeatedly clarified that Mr and Mrs Potato Head still exist. She tried to reason: "Piers, they are not getting rid - do not worry, don't let your fragile masculinity be threatened. "They are still having Mr Potato Head, no-one's getting rid of Mr Potato Head!" But Piers wouldn't back down, moaning: "Nobody ever complained to have Wonder Woman airbrushed because men don't complain about these things; feminists want to have Mr Potato Head expunged because he is sexist. "There are massive companies making these decisions to … [Read more...] about Susanna Reid slams Piers Morgan’s ‘fragile masculinity’ and says he’s ‘arguing with an empty room’ in Potato Head debate
