Shoppers are paying up to 180% more for vegan food than for the equivalent meat-based product, research finds

· February 27, 2021 ·

Shoppers are paying up to 180 per cent more for vegan food than for the equivalent meat-based product, research has found. Four in five vegan goods cost more than their meat versions, according to a study commissioned by sports insurance brand Insure4Sport. It was noted that Marks & Spencer's £2.25 Plant Kitchen 'No Pork' sausage rolls were £1.45 more expensive than their 80p meat alternative - both of which weighed 120g. Meanwhile, Waitrose's £3.75 Vegan Chilli with Soya Mince and Rice, which weighs 400g, costs £1 more than its 450g meat counterpart. Many ingredients in the vegan products are more affordable, but the price can be driven up by development methods such as blending stages and heat processing. Marks & Spencer's £2.25 Plant Kitchen 'No Pork' sausage rolls (pictured above) were £1.45 more expensive than their 80p meat alternative - both of which weighed 120g Waitrose's one litre carton of oat milk is also priced at £1.55, compared to a litre of … [Read more...] about Shoppers are paying up to 180% more for vegan food than for the equivalent meat-based product, research finds

Young couple say they’ve found 150 faults in brand-new £265,000 Help to Buy home

· February 27, 2021 ·

A couple say their Help to Buy dream became a nightmare as they claim to have found 150 problems in their new-build home in two years. Amy Fenn, 24, and fiancé George Watts-Sturrock, 32, bought the £265,000 starter home under the flagship Government scheme. But their joy turned to misery with a seemingly never-ending list of “snags”. The couple claim there was damp and mould, uneven walls and unfinished stairs. They say a sink was wonky, doors were wobbly, worktops damaged, tiling was iffy and drains were blocked with rubble. Then – through sheer bad luck, not down to poor building – there were two floods. In that second, a water tank exploded as horrified Amy and George lay in bed. Amy said: “We heard a huge bang and gushing water and found the tank in our boiler system had literally exploded. It has just been one thing after another.” George, who works in quality assurance, said: “We were so excited to get our first home but it’s been a nightmare.” The detached … [Read more...] about Young couple say they’ve found 150 faults in brand-new £265,000 Help to Buy home

· February 27, 2021 ·

New Zealand's prime minister has announced the country's biggest city, Auckland, will go into a seven-day lockdown after a COVID-19 case was detected. From Sunday, two million people will only be allowed to leave their home for essential shopping and essential work, Jacinda Ardern said, and all public venues will remain closed.
