Where do they think it’s going to end, all this? What do they, by which I mean all of the other members of the government, think is going to be the outcome for them? Johnson is finished, they must know that. And yet, on they all go, day after day, week after week, publicly humiliating themselves in defence of a man who they must surely know would never, ever do the same for them, and from whom no good, now, is ever going to come? Dominic Raab does not come across as a man who, in his private moments, has an especially deep reservoir of Zen-like calm to call upon. What is he saying to himself, to his friends? What are the voices in his head shouting at him when he gets to the end of yet another agonising humiliation on the TV channels and radio stations, doing his level best to style out the absurd lies of a man who, he must surely know by now, is not telling him the truth? Even by Raab’s incomparably low standards, Tuesday morning’s efforts were off-the-scale … [Read more...] about Clearly, we’ve expected too much of Boris Johnson on the Chris Pincher scandal

Internet laughs as vet trip reveals cat is secretly eating neighbor’s food
As cat owners will tell you, felines are very food-orientated. From the " savage " Bengal who has to be fenced in at mealtimes, to this muffin-stealing moggy , cats will go to extreme lengths for a full belly. One pet parent was concerned after their cat stopped eating, only to discover that the sneaky puss had been stealing food from the neighbors. Posting to the subreddit r/cats on July 4, Reddit user u/Mysticstorms shared a snap of their pet with their stomach shaved. After turning down meals for three days straight, the ginger and white cat had been to the vet for an ultrasound. Fortunately, no health problems were detected, but they did find lunch. "Cat didn't eat for 3 days, went to the vet where they did an ultra sound only to find a belly full of the neighbour's cat's food," Mysticstorms wrote alongside the photograph, which had more than 45,000 upvotes at the time of publication. A study published in 2020 suggested that how pet cats are fed can determine their … [Read more...] about Internet laughs as vet trip reveals cat is secretly eating neighbor’s food

Report: Student Survived Massacre By Playing Dead, Lying On Top Of Dying Classmate | The Daily Wire
At least one student says that she survived Tuesday’s mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, by lying on top of a dying classmate. According to a timeline reconstruction published Wednesday by The Washington Post, Miguel Cerrillo’s 11-year-old daughter Miah was in the classroom when the gunman barricaded himself inside. Cerrillo said that he rushed forward after he saw Miah being carried to a hospital-bound bus with several bullet fragments in her side. He told The Washington Post that he had been able to briefly speak with her through the window before the bus pulled away. “‘I panicked,’ Cerrillo told the Washington Post, saying his daughter detailed how she had watched as her teacher, Eva Mireles, was shot by the gunman while attempting to phone the police,” The Houston Chronicle reported . “His daughter Miah told Cerrillo she quickly grabbed the phone and called 911, and then hid from the shooter by lying down on top of one of her classmates, who had been … [Read more...] about Report: Student Survived Massacre By Playing Dead, Lying On Top Of Dying Classmate | The Daily Wire

100 Women: Breaking the contraception taboo in India
By Saroj Singh Published 11 October 2017 Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Contraception is a taboo topic in India - resulting in high fertility rates. In Bihar, one of the country's poorest states, women have an average of three or more children. But in a remote village, one woman is trying to change that. "Yes, I use contraception," says Nirma Devi, a 29-year-old married mother of two. "During my period, I use the red pills and otherwise the black ones. I know it has no side effects." It's a sensational statement for a woman from Barachatti village in the Gaya district of Bihar. The highs and lows of working in Taranaki’s Emergency Department
Andy MacDonald / Taranaki Daily News A look around the Taranaki Base Hospital emergency department. At one of Taranaki Base Hospital’s main entrances, a couple are helping each other in through the doors, a woman is walking out carrying a baby, and a man is trying to phone a taxi. “I need to get out of here,” he says more than once, glancing back at the building. His attitude sums up the viewpoint of most Kiwis when it comes to hospitals – they’re about the last place anyone wants to end up. Yet for the staff of Taranaki’s Emergency Department (ED), there’s something about the variety, the fast-pace of the job, and the ability to help people that keeps them coming back.
