One of Scarborough’s friendliest gyms has just had a major facelift. Sunset 24/7, 0n Belle Vue Street, is the only gym in Scarborough open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and has just unveiled its new look.The gym, which was opened in 1987, has a loyal membership with a dedicated body building area on the ground floor along with an equipment room on the first floor, including cardio machines, treadmills, a class area and compressed air facilities. PureGym has submitted plans relating to a unit in the Gallagher Retail Park in Marchfields Way, which also houses PC World, Currys and KFC.If approved, the gym will share the property with its current occupant, stationary retailer Office Outlet. The application, which was submitted to North Somerset Council back in October, says the gym will open 24 hours a day. Families are making a last-ditch attempt stop a drive-thru near their homes from opening 24 hours a day. McDonald’s wants to increase the opening hours at its branch on the A34 between Chesterton and Wolstanton. The fast-food chain has already successfully appealed against a decision to refuse planning permission for the change. It has now applied to Newcastle Borough Council for a new premises licence to open the restaurant from 5am until midnight every day, while the drive-thru would operate for 24 hours. Several objections have been received, with nearby residents saying an extension to the opening hours would cause an increase in noise and litter associated with the eatery. Neighbour Michelle Jones said: "We have problems with boy racers while it is only open until 11pm. Sainsbury’s wants to open its fourth Canterbury store - but this time in the heart of the city and with 24-hour opening.The national chain, which already has a supermarket in Kingsmead and two smaller shops in St Dunstan’s and next to the Spitfire Ground, has its eyes on the former Chimichanga restaurant.Hopeful bosses, who want the store to be open all day, every day, have submitted their official plans to Canterbury City Council.If approved, the new Sainsbury’s Local, which will be in a grade II-listed building, would be less than 500 metres from the existing St Dunstan’s branch.The proposed 24-hour opening times are a cause for concern for chairman of St Mildred’s Area Community Society, Reg Race.“The store will be an attraction for people coming out of pubs and clubs to congregate,” he said.“There will be noise and trouble.
