Fans of Shepherd's Bush's McDonald's may be overjoyed to hear of an application to extend their local fast food joint's hours to 24/7. But some neighbours are not so keen, fearing the golden arches will attract drunks, drug-users — and rats. The McDonald’s at 88-90 Uxbridge Road has an application in to remain open day and night. Hammersmith and Fulham (H&F) Council's licensing officer has recommended a subcommittee refuse the bid on grounds later hours could attract antisocial behaviour. The council's licensing committee will be asked to make the decision next Tuesday, amid opposition from neighbours too. Currently, the McDonald's, located a short walk from Shepherd's Bush underground station, is licensed to open from 6.30am to 2am, Monday to Sunday. The application made on April 13 by APPT Corporation Ltd, which runs 31 McDonald's restaurants, asks to extend the Shepherd's Bush franchises hours to 24/7. Its application said it would operate in respect of its … [Read more...] about A McDonald’s in Shepherd’s Bush wants to open 24 hours a day

A fourth McDonald’s could be opening in Nottingham city centre - in one of intu Victoria Centre’s boarded up restaurants. The burger chain is seeking planning permission to take over the site of former American restaurant Coast to Coast overlooking Milton Street. It is proposing a 24-hour restaurant with space for 153 inside, plus additional seating outside. 65 full and part-time jobs would be created. The unit - part of the Clocktower dining area - has stood empty since Coast to Coast closed with the loss of 20 jobs in February 2017. McDonald’s already has branches in Clumber Street, Angel Row and Exchange Walk in the city centre. Coast to Coast was one of a raft of restaurant closures last year, which also resulted in the loss of Joes Kitchen, the Stonebaked Pizza Co and the Handmade Burger Co. A "challenging trading period," was blamed. A spokeswoman for McDonald’s said: “We can confirm that we have submitted a planning application to open a new … [Read more...] about McDonald’s unveils plans to open 24-hour restaurant in Victoria Centre

Uber is setting up an “open all hours” telephone hotline for passengers who want to make a complaint after a journey booked through the cab hailing app. The move is part of a new package of reforms in the Silicon Valley giant’s “charm offensive” launched after Transport for London’s shock refusal to renew its licence to operate in the capital last September. An appeal against that decision has been launched in the courts but London’s largest new private hire operator has also separately made a series of pledges to clean up its act under the leadership of chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi. Today’s announcement means that passengers - as well as drivers - will have a number to call to report bad experiences or seek support. Previously the only point of contact with Uber was through the online app. In a statement Uber said: ”Whenever there’s an issue like an incorrect cancellation fee, riders and drivers alike often … [Read more...] about Uber to open 24-hour hotline for reporting ‘bad experiences’
