A man caused panic on a Bristol train when he said it would be "the last train journey" passengers made as he had a bomb. When Shaun Walsh was travelling on the 2pm service from Bristol Temple Meads to Weston-super-Mare on April 23 this year, he said: "I'm sorry to inform you that it will be the last train journey you will make. I've got a bomb." Terrified passengers moved from the carriage and police were called in. When Walsh was arrested and found not to have a device, he told police: "They knew I didn't have a bomb, so why am I still sat in your car?" The 26-year-old, of Wick Road in Bristol, denied wrongdoing but magistrates found him guilty of making a bomb hoax. On July 10, at Bristol Crown Court, Judge Martin Picton jailed Walsh for three years. He told Walsh: "What you did that day was deeply antisocial and disruptive." 'I'll kill you all.' Edward Hetherington, prosecuting, said Walsh was wearing a bulky coat and seen to be "playing" with an emergency hammer before he … [Read more...] about Train passengers terrified as man says ‘I’ve got a bomb’

Dog owner David Normington has defended huskies after the breed has been blamed for recent attacks in the city - and has pointed to the four he happily lives with as evidence of their loving nature. The 56-year-old, along with wife Angela, a nurse, currently share their Werrington home with four huskies - six-year-old Saskia, Milo, aged five, four-year-old Max, and 12-month old Inara - along with Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross, Alfie, aged seven. David, who runs his own scuba … [Read more...] about ‘Huskies are great, that’s why I’ve got four!’

Graham Coughlan says Bristol Rovers are in for a competitive summer when it comes to recruitment. Rovers sign off their season at home to Barnsley on Saturday and Coughlan will be sitting down with the players on Monday in order to discuss their futures. In terms of players coming in, the Rovers boss is already in discussions with one or two. He said: "I'm fairly proactive, I've a fair idea of what I want, what I need, what the club needs. "Getting them will be a problem but I'm already in dialogue with one or two players. We've had a full week of it here, when the lads had a couple of days off after Fleetwood we were bang on it at the training ground, with all of our ideas and making our calls, just trying to get ourselves in the forefront of the race. "Let's be honest, most of these clubs will want one or two of the players that I'm after because I probably have a bit of a nose for a League One player." Coughlan says Rovers have lacked pace and physicality this season, so that … [Read more...] about ‘I’ve got a nose for a League One player’
