Police in Canada have issued a rare rebuke to the public after a late-night emergency mobile phone alert about an abducted child prompted widespread complaints. At 11.36pm on Thursday night, police in Ontario issued an amber alert for Riya Rajkumar, 11, after police feared the girl’s father had kidnapped her. Shortly after the alert was issued, police found her body, but they said that calls from the public helped them locate and arrest her father, Roopesh Rajkumar. A second alert was sent at 12.21am, saying Riya had been located. A DAD has been arrested after his daughter vanished while out celebrating her birthday. Riya Rajkumar, 11, was found dead at a home in the city of Brampton, Ontario, hours after she disappeared while in the care of her father, 41-year-old Roopesh. The schoolgirl’s mum had called the police after Roopesh, who is separated from her, did not return with the little girl at the agreed time. Police launched a search at about 11pm local time amid fears he had abducted his own daughter. Concerns were also mounting after he reportedly made comments to the mother suggesting he could cause harm to himself and his daughter. Police issued what is known as an “amber alert” at 11.30pm which urged the public to keep an eye out for the dad's silver Honda Civic. An 11-year-girl has been found murdered after going missing, with her dad held on suspicion of killing her. Riya Rajkumar was found dead at a property in the city of Brampton, Ontario, hours after she vanished in the care of her father, 41-year-old Roopesh Rajkumar. Peel Regional Police reported just after 11pm (local time) that a parental abduction investigation was underway after Rajkumar failed to return the child to her mother. He also reportedly made comments to the mother indicating he could cause harm to himself and his daughter. Police issued what is known as an 'amber alert' for people to keep an eye out for Rajkumar's silver Honda Civic. That alert was cancelled a little under an hour later, and police announced a short time later that Riya had been found dead, and her father was in custody.
