A Rússia enviou para o espaço às primeiras horas desta segunda-feira (22h14, de domingo, em Lisboa) mais uma constelação de pequenos satélites desenvolvidos pela empresa britânica "OneWeb" para formar uma rede de Internet na órbita terrestre. São já 182 a circular em torno do planeta. A operação foi realizada com recurso a um foguetão Soyuz 2,1b, lançado da base de Vostochny, no leste do país, próximo do Pacifico, e teve sucesso, confirmou Dmitry Rogozin, o diretor-geral da Roscosmos , a agência espacial russa, numa mensagem publicada na rede social Telegram. Ao todo, neste lançamento, o segundo dos 16 previstos de Vostochny, foram 36 satélites. O objetivo é colocar mais de 600 no espaço e completar a rede "OneWeb" até final de 2022. SpaceX will suffer major disruption of its Starlink internet service if US regulators allow 5G networks to use a certain radio frequency, Elon Musk’s company has warned. In a note to customers, SpaceX claimed that plans by Dish Network to use the 12GHz spectrum for its mobile service will cause outages for more than three quarters of Starlink users. The internet service relies on a 2,400-strong satellite constellation to beam high-speed broadband to users on the ground through the 12GHz band. A SpaceX study submitted to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) claimed that Starlink user terminals would no longer work if Dish’s ground-based network was granted the same frequency. “If Dish’s lobbying efforts succeed, our study shows that Starlink customers will experience harmful interference more than 77 per cent of the time and total outage of service 74 per cent of the time, rendering Starlink unusable for most Americans,” SpaceX wrote. Researchers in Japan have achieved a world record for data transmission using standard hardware, achieving speeds 100,000 times faster than 5G internet speeds. The Network Research Institute at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) demonstrated the first ever data transmission of 1.02 petabit (PB) per second, equivalent to just over 125,000 Gigabytes (GB) per second, using optic fibres compatible with conventional cable infrastructure. NICT constructed the transmission system using fibres with standard 0.125mm cladding diameter, which it described as “a major step towards the realisation of ultra-high-throughput optical links... compatible with existing cabling technologies for near-term adoption.” The system allowed 1.02 PB per second to be transmitted over 51.7km, NICT noted in a press release detailing the achievement.
