Soft Cell return with lockdown-written Happiness Not Included for first new album in 20 years
“SUCCESSION, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Kominsky Method, Call My Agent, writing the new Soft Cell album . . . ” Marc Almond is listing what got him through lockdown and how he and Dave Ball wrote the band’s first new album since 2002’s Cruelty Without Beauty. Almond adds: “The one thing I was grateful to lockdown for was being able to make this record. I started writing it because everyone was locked in. “I would have gone mad if it wasn’t for this album because I like working all the time.” I meet the singer in a central London hotel and, over cups of coffee and biscuits, he tells me the story behind Happiness Not Included, the sixth album from Soft Cell — the band he last waved goodbye to in 2018. It was September of that year when Soft Cell reunited for a farewell gig at London’s O2 Arena with a 30-song setlist. It was a date that also marked 40 years to the day the duo met. Bezos Torches Biden Again Over Dubious Claim About His Administration’s Accomplishments | The Daily Wire
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos slammed Democrat President Joe Biden on Sunday for trying to claim that his administration had lowered the deficit amid skyrocketing inflation. Bezos’ remarks come after the Bureau of Labor Statistics released statistics last week that showed that the Consumer Price Index increased 8.3% in April from a year ago, which is higher than the projected 8.1%. “Under my predecessor, the deficit increased every single year,” Biden claimed over the weekend on Twitter. “This year, we’re on track to cut the deficit by $1.5 trillion – the biggest one-year decline ever. It matters to families, because reducing the deficit is one of the main ways we can ease inflationary pressures.” The Neoliberal Project responded to Biden’s tweet by writing: “This is so silly. The deficit is decreasing because we’re not doing pandemic aid anymore, and federal receipts are up because of inflation. Congress, or the Biden administration, didn’t do anything to lower the deficit.” … [Read more...] about Bezos Torches Biden Again Over Dubious Claim About His Administration’s Accomplishments | The Daily Wire
Always fancied wild swimming? It has surprising health benefits, even in winter
If you want to reap the benefits of better sleep, increased happiness, a boosted immune system and the ability to manage long-term health conditions, then outdoor swimming might be the hobby for you. Generally, there are two types of outdoor swimming: open water (which refers to events and races) and wild (unsupervised locations in seas, rivers and lakes etc). According to The Outdoor Swimming Society in the last year, 7.5 million people in the UK ventured into the water outdoors and a recent report by Outdoor Swimmer Magazine found that 75% of new outdoor swimmers said they wanted to continue swimming outside throughout the winter. However, as the cold weather sets in, is it still OK to plunge in? ‘You have three elements when it comes to outdoor swimming,’ says Professor Greg Whyte OBE, a world-renowned sports scientist who trained both David Walliams for his 21-mile swim across the English Channel and Davina McCall for her 506-mile ultra-triathlon. ‘Exercise … [Read more...] about Always fancied wild swimming? Normal People’s Paul Mescal has ‘no f***ing idea what’s happening’ with the obsession over his chain
Paul Mescal has become a worldwide heartthrob since his star turn in Normal People , with even his silver chain becoming a sex symbol. And he isn’t exactly finding the new found attention easy. The 24-year-old has admitted that he has ‘no f***ing idea what’s happening’ after his chain racked up over 180,000 followers on the Instagram thirst account @connellschain. Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Mescal said: ‘It wasn’t that it was bothering me, but I was like, if there is something that’s gaining this much attention… and it’s an inanimate object. It’s a chain. ‘It’s not something that says lines, it’s not something that has an emotional response to a situation, it’s not something that expresses anything. It’s a thing that’s clipped around a character’s neck.’ The Kildare-born actor added: ‘Between the necklace and being photographed going to the shop. It’s pretty, pretty weird, and it’s uncomfortable.’ Paul said, though, that he ‘reclaimed some form of … [Read more...] about Normal People’s Paul Mescal has ‘no f***ing idea what’s happening’ with the obsession over his chain
