AN EQUINE flu outbreak has caused British horse racing to be cancelled. But what are the symptoms? Can humans catch equine flu? By Ariane Sohrabi-Shiraz/Published 8th February 2019 An outbreak of equine flu has caused British horse racing to be cancelled until at least February 13.The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) announced the news after three vaccinated horses tested positive for the disease.Trainer Donald McCain in Cheshire has confirmed the horses came from his stables.McCain sent out runners at Ludlow and Ayr on Wednesday afternoon before vets later informed him of the news, with the trainer then contacting the British Horseracing Authority.The origin of the infection is unclear, with McCain keen to emphasise he would never knowingly have run a potentially infected horse.Horses from the infected yard raced on Wednesday, and racing has been called off in a bid to contain the outbreak.The BHA said: “This precautionary approach is intended to ensure we put the health of … [Read more...] about Equine flu symptoms: Can humans get equine flu? Earlier today during a press conference at the Malta Racing Club we were given the details of the 18th running of the President’s Cup to be raced on Saturday 8th December. Apart from being the second highest honour for local trotters, this race has the philantropic aim to collect funds for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation and is sanctioned by the President of Malta. The Malta Racing Club’s General Secretary Tommy Cunningham said that this year’s edition is a special one as thanks to the sponsors Technovet it will be distributing the largest ever prize money totalling €6000 of which the winner will take home €3200. BOOZE flowed and clothes came off as tens of thousands of racing fans turned out for one of the USA's oldest horse races. The race meet at Far Hills, New Jersey has been a tradition in the North Eastern state for 98 years. But the notorious meet is as well known for the alcohol fuelled antics of the spectators as it is for the events on the track. High spirited attendees of the charity event were seen knocking back tequila, vodka and whiskey from the bottle as the wild off course antics got into full swing on Saturday. This year the meet had the added vice of gambling as attendees were allowed to bet for the first time in the nearly century old fixture. Pictures showed revellers locking lips as they danced around in the muddy fields and some were even snapped performing keg stands. Cops had vowed to crack down on underage drinkers at the event but that didn't dampen the celebrations.
