Nicola Sturgeon should resign if she is found to have breached the ministerial code, new Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar has told Sky News. Speaking to the Sophy Ridge on Sunday programme, Mr Sarwar also acknowledged his party was in "a really bad position" ahead of the Holyrood elections in May and was "not naive about the scale of the challenge" faced. His comments came in his first broadcast interview since becoming leader on Saturday, defeating Monica Lennon with more than 57% of the vote. Mr Sarwar, who was an NHS dentist, is the first ethnic minority leader of a political party in the UK after his grandparents emigrated to Scotland from Pakistan. Ms Sturgeon is currently the subject of an investigation over whether she misled the Scottish Parliament on when she knew about allegations of harassment made against her predecessor Alex Salmond . ‘Captain Tom rose to superhuman challenge of extraordinary times – he was the best of us’
Once in a century someone ordinary comes along with the grit and guts to rise to the superhuman challenge of extraordinary times. Such a man was Captain Sir Tom Moore, who made it to his 100th birthday – despite setting himself an ambitious task that would have floored some people half his age. He only intended to raise £1,000 for the NHS by doing 100 laps of his garden with his walking frame. No one was more gobsmacked than him when donations hit nearly £40million. In doing so, he both inspired and humbled a nation staring a foreign invader in the eye and fearing defeat. If Tom could square up to this enemy with such steely courage and punch it on the snout, then so could the rest of us. And it should be no irony that it was Covid-19 that eventually got him. The Second World War veteran passed away on February 2, suffering from pneumonia and having been diagnosed with coronavirus. Many of our greatest warriors are honoured only posthumously thanks to their heroism. His … [Read more...] about ‘Captain Tom rose to superhuman challenge of extraordinary times – he was the best of us’
From medieval walls to the clear Adriatic sea — relax in Croatia’s stunning walled city of Dubrovnik
DUBROVNIK’S medieval city walls – check. Clear waters of the Adriatic Sea – check. Shiny marble streets – check. The only thing missing was the people. In that heady period last summer in between lockdowns, when European borders had briefly opened, I was back in Croatia’s most visited city — and one of its most captivating. But with no cruise ships or coaches full of daytrippers, the usual 10,000 people who would crowd every day into the narrow lanes of Dubrovnik’s old town just weren’t there. It was, I have to admit, quite blissful. It will be some time before the cruise ships can come back, and they won’t return in nearly the same numbers as before the pandemic. In the meantime, the incomparable beauty of this ancient Adriatic port will be so much easier to enjoy once we’re able to travel again. Every time I come to Dubrovnik, I cannot resist a walk along its medieval city walls. Before the heat of the day became too much, I took my time wandering along the … [Read more...] about From medieval walls to the clear Adriatic sea — relax in Croatia’s stunning walled city of Dubrovnik

MEGYN Kelly has said a “leftist” private school subjected her sons to to a three week trans education experiment. The 50-year-old journalist told Bill Maher she has now removed her two sons from their $56,000-a-year Manhattan school. Kelly, 50, is mother to 11-year-old Edward and seven-year-old Thatcher Bray, who attended the $56,000-a-year Collegiate School on the Upper West Side. In addition to her two sons, Kelly has a nine-year-old daughter named Yardley, who she also plans to take out of her school, believed to be the $57,385-a-year Spence School on the Upper East Side. Kelly said that despite political differences: "We loved our schools. Loved our teachers, loved the students and faculty and parents. "They were definitely leftist - we are more center right - but that was fine, my whole family are Democrats." She then told Maher that her sons' school then embarked on a trans education program. "But then they went hard left, and then they started to take a … [Read more...] about Megyn Kelly removed kids from ‘leftist’ private school after they were forced into ‘3-week trans-education experiment’
