More info Britain is set to build the world's first nuclear fusion power plant which could one-day harness limitless clean energy as the UK scrambles to wean itself off fossil fuels. The Government has pinpointed a West Burton site in Nottinghamshire as the location for the first plant, called the ‘ STEP ’ (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production). It is hoped that the STEP will generate endless amounts of clean electricity via nuclear fusion reactions, the same process used by stars where hydrogen atoms fuse together to form helium and matter to harness energy. Reports of a "nuclear train" heading to Ukraine have spread online but these reports should be treated with caution, according to an expert. Twitter Due to your consent preferences, you’re not able to view this. Open Privacy Options This video was released online yesterday, and some reports have claimed it shows a convoy of the unit responsible for transporting Russia's nuclear arsenal heading to Ukraine. The train has been geo-located to Sergiyev Posad, northeast of Moscow. This is approximately 350-400 miles from the Ukrainian border and it cannot be confirmed where the train is heading from the video alone. Forbes McKenzie, former British Army intelligence officer and chief executive of McKenzie Intelligence Services Ltd, told Sky News: "The train that has been observed has all the signatures of the 12th Main Directorate." The 12th Main Directorate is responsible for the safe-keeping, maintenance, transportation and disposal of the country's nuclear … [Read more...] about Reports of a ‘nuclear train’ heading to Ukraine should be treated with caution

Kim Jong Un has largely defied the odds. Faced with mounting U.S. military pressure over his rapidly developing nuclear and ballistic missile arsenal as well as persistent accusations of human rights abuses, the third-generation North Korean leader has successfully developed a weapon capable of delivering mass destruction across the globe, the likes of which the U.S. has dealt to others, but has never before received. North Korea's latest intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch Friday probably burned out before hitting the waters near Japan, but its unprecedented height and range demonstrated a level of performance that experts say places U.S. population centers such as Los Angeles, Chicago and possibly even New York City within Kim's scope. They said North Korea's latest Hwasong-14 ICBM, equipped with a nuclear warhead about as powerful as the one used by the U.S. military against the Japanese city of Hiroshima in 1945, could perhaps deliver what would be by far the … [Read more...] about North Korea Can Launch Deadliest Attack in U.S. History
Russian President Vladimir Putin personally took part in a late-night military drill of his nuclear-capable forces that launched four missiles across Russia, activating air and naval forces, the Kremlin announced. The drill launched two ballistic missiles from east to west, landing in Russia's northwestern Arkhangelsk region and another two missiles were launched from the west of the country, landing in eastern Kamchatka, which is separated from Alaskan territory by the Bering Sea. Tensions between Moscow and its western neighbors have been at a post-Cold War high since Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and its neighbor in the far-east, North Korea, is itself currently engaged in a tense nuclear posturing showdown with the U.S. Missiles flew near border regions both eastwards and westwards. As part of Russia's drill that took place on Thursday night, Russian forces launched the intercontinental ballistic missile Topol, tested as recently as last month, when troops fired one … [Read more...] about Putin Launches Missiles in Russian Nuclear Forces Drill
Russia's so-called death train, intended to carry up to six intercontinental nuclear missiles (ICBMs), may be nearing its demise before it even hits the rails. Three separate reports in Russian state media, citing defense industry sources, claim that the project for the train known as the Barguzin, may be put on ice indefinitely as cash is needed to fund other defense projects. Although the reports are not conclusive confirmation that the Kremlin has given up on the project—officially known as the boyevoy zheleznodorozhniy raketniy kompleks (BZhRK), which roughly translates as "combat railway rocket complex"—it does suggest that reports that the train may be running within a couple of years are premature. According to one of the reports, by state news agency Itar-Tass , the Barguzin project has been frozen because of "a lack of financial means," as Moscow is prioritizing two other projects, one of which is the infamous new ICBM Sarmat . It remains to be seen whether the … [Read more...] about Russia’s Nuclear Death Train: Will the Kremlin Axe It?

North Korea has criticized foreign media and other institutions, especially in the West, for suggesting it was planning to harm civilians in a potential nuclear attack, which it said would be launched only in retaliation for U.S. aggression. Jo Chol Su, director of press at North Korea's state-run Institute of American Studies, was quoted Wednesday by the official Korean Central News Agency as saying there was no truth to press rumors that North Korea was plotting a nuclear attack, especially against South Korea's upcoming Winter Olympics , to be held in February in Pyongyang. He also cited a rumor that North Korea was planning another ballistic missile launch around Christmas . Jo said such stories were false readings of North Korea's media and would contribute to the ultimate outbreak of total war if not reined in. Related: North Korea starting a war? Russian President Vladimir Putin has reignited fears that he is about to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine following a viral video and a defense analyst's comments. The video, posted Sunday on Twitter and viewed more than 250,000 times, initially appeared on the pro-Russia Telegram channel Rybar. "Another train with military equipment going to the front by rail somewhere in central Russia," Twitter user NovichokRossiya captioned the video . "At first glance, there is nothing special about it. But upon closer examination, you can see KamAZ-43269 "Shot" standing on the platforms with combat modules "Spoke." Poland-based defense analyst Konrad Muzyka tweeted that the video is even more significant. "This 'another train with military equipment' is actually carrying kit belonging to the 12th Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defence," Muzyka commented while sharing the post.
