OPINION: For the first time in a long time, the Warriors head into an NRL season having reached the finals the previous year. The bulk of the squad remains the same, but there are some notable losses, with long-serving veteran Simon Mannering hanging up the boots, while the off-season was rocked with the news of Shaun Johnson's departure. Despite that, the belief is high as ever for the Warriors, as they look to back up last year's efforts with another run to the finals. Fourteen of the 17 players that started against the Panthers in the elimination final will be back for 2019, which bodes well for a club trying to build on the success of last year. They've brought in New Zeland international Leeson Ah Mau to add size to the pack, while Lachlan Burr will … [Read more...] about Ben Francis: Warriors poised for 2019 NRL playoff return

Wigan coach Adrian Lam says George Williams’ form has dipped amid constant speculation over a move to the NRL - and has urged the club to sort the situation quickly. Up to six clubs from Down Under are chasing the England stand-off, despite him signing a marquee contract that tied him to the Warriors until November 2021. Part of that deal allows Williams to leave at the end of next season if a predetermined fee is met - but clubs including Canberra and New Zealand Warriors are circling the 24-year-old for 2020. Lam says the issue is having an impact on Williams’ performances, with Wigan having lost three of their opening four Super League matches including at promoted London on Sunday. Lam said: “I think it may have affected him last week, without a doubt. “It would affect any human being that’s talking about leaving his hometown team, and signing for a team on the other side of the world and leaving his family. “I know he’s close to his … [Read more...] about Adrian Lam admits constant NRL speculation affecting George Williams’ form
