Changes to the structure of domestic cricket from 2020 onwards have been agreed by Nottinghamshire and the other 18 first-class counties. In the Specsavers County Championship, two extra teams will be added to the First Division after the promotion from Division Two of three sides, rather than two, and the relegation of only one, rather than two, in 2019. However, the ten sides will continue to play 14 matches. The Second Division will comprise eight teams.The 50-Over One-Day Cup will be played during July and August, with the counties split into two groups of nine that are not necessarily regional. Cricketing stalwart Wes Allison received the VIP treatment at Lords in recognition of his 58-year ‘marriage’ to Caistor Cricket Club. Derbyshire County Cricket Club is assessing the potential impact of its "principal partner" - Derby-based training provider Aspire Achieve Advance (3aaa) - being placed in administration. The company, which was one of the biggest apprenticeship training providers in the country, told up to 500 staff and 4,500 learners the news last Thursday at 3pm and immediately handed out redundancy notices and closed courses. The Department for Education, which pulled the plug on funding to the company, has now submitted the findings of investigations into the firm to the police via Action Fraud and Derbyshire police has confirmed it is involved. A county cricket hopeful has seen his career dreams put on hold after he was attacked during a night out in Oldham. Justin Watson, 20, a promising amateur, and talented teammate Marques Ackerman, 22, were both assaulted on Yorkshire Street in the town centre on Friday, July 27. The players had been training with Shaw Cricket Club and had spent the night at nearby drinking spots before they were attacked by a group of men. Justin, who lives in South Africa but holds a British passport, suffered a fractured jaw and had to have surgery before being released five days later. Club Captain Steve Whinston said the young hopeful was due to go for trials with Durham and Nottinghamshire, which due to his injuries will now not be possible.
