It's not often that David Dimbleby is left speechless, especially by the panelists on the BBC's flagship political discussion show Question Time. But outspoken Labour MP John Mann pulled off the impossible last night, by revealing an astonishing meeting. During a discussion on the similarities between Donald Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, Mann offered up a fascinating piece of information. “I once met Kim’s father, he said. "Only in passing, and he was like him. Strange family.” Dumbfounded, Dimbleby asked how the great meeting of minds had come to pass. “Erm. It was at a conference,” Mann replied. He added that the conflab had taken place prior to Kim Jong Un being installed as Great Leader of the Democratic Peoples' Republic of Korea. But he confirmed they had been drawn together by something both men had in common - loneliness. He added: “You know. No one was talking to me, and no one was talking to him. So I went and had a word with … [Read more...] about Labour MP says he once met Kim Jong Il and they had something in common

John Fritze and Doug Stanglin USA TODAY Published 3:28 p.m. UTC Jun 14, 2018 WASHINGTON — President Trump waved away concerns about North Korea’s human rights record and described Kim Jong Un as a "tough guy" in an interview with Fox News. Speaking aboard Air Force One before he departed Singapore after the summit on North Korea, Trump acknowledged executions carried out by Kim but said “so have a lot of other people done some really bad things." The interviewed aired Wednesday night. "He is a tough guy," Trump said of Kim. "When you take over a country, a tough country, tough people, and you take it over from your father, I don't care who you are, what you are, how much of an advantage you have," Trump said. "This is a smart guy, a great negotiator, but I think we understand each other." Critics have questioned how aggressively Trump pressed Kim on human rights during their historic summit this week, and whether the president would demand changes … [Read more...] about Trump: North Korea’s Kim Jong Un is a ‘tough guy’
By Christine Kim and Ben Blanchard Accompanied by his wife, greeted by honour guards, and entertained at banquets, Kim Jong Un made his international debut as North Korea’s leader by being wined and dined in the capital of the world’s most populous country. Kim’s “unofficial” visit to China this week marks his first known trip outside the North since taking power in late 2011, and it helped burnish the image he has recently been cultivating as a leader who has to be shown respect by the world’s most powerful. Despite recent chilly relations between the neighbours, Chinese President Xi Jinping rolled out an actual red carpet for Kim, who arrived from Pyongyang in a 21-car bulletproof train. “Just look at Kim’s big smile on his face while he’s shaking hands with Xi,” said Kim Yong-hyun, professor of North Korean studies at South Korea’s Dongguk University. “Although it was Kim’s first trip outside North … [Read more...] about North Korea’s Kim seen building global status in trip to China
There is no dearth of rumours and conjectures pertaining to North Korea and its 30-something leader Kim Jong-un, given the highly secretive nature of the regime. Now an audio forensic expert from rival South Korea claims Kim could be suffering from kidney problems. Cho Dong-uk, a professor at Chungnam State University, told a local daily that Kim's recent New Year's address indicates that his kidneys are not functioning as well as his other internal organs. Analysing Kim's speech from a medical perspective, Cho paid close attention to the vibration, noise and amplitude of the dictator's pronunciation of several consonant sounds. The analysis included jitters, shimmer, noise-to-harmonics ratio and voice "energy", added Cho. "One cannot judge the functions of Kim's internal organs using such an analysis, but according to the results of his New Year's performance, one can understand that the kidney functions are weaker than those of other organs," the professor was quoted as saying.
