Pep Guardiola promised before the game that he does not do boring, does not even know how. And it is hard to believe that the two most gung-ho and cavalier teams in the Premier League would ever set out to produce a stalemate. But after Riyad Mahrez blazed Manchester City’s late penalty over the crossbar, there was simply nothing between the reigning champions and most likely challengers Liverpool . They cancelled each other out. Neither team able to find a way through as what was billed as a thrilling title shoot-out turned into a bore draw. Incredibly, they managed just three shots in the first half — the joint lowest in the Premier League this season, along with Newcastle vs Arsenal and Huddersfield vs Cardiff. However, if Liverpool-City did not set the pulses racing, then it was a reflection of just how well these heavyweights are matched this season. They shared 18 goals in four meetings between the clubs in the Premier League and Champions League last season as … [Read more...] about ‘Liverpool v Man City a shock bore draw but still hints at thrilling title race’

If Inspector Maigret, the famous fictional Parisian detective, were on the case, puffing away merrily on his pipe, he'd be telling his assistants at police HQ that age, draw, and sex are key factors to consider. 20 of the last 28 winners of the big race have been three-year-olds, who receive weight for age allowances from four-year-old colts of 6lbs (or 10lbs if fillies). Six of the last seven winners have been fillies, and three-year-old fillies, who carry only 8st 9lbs in the race (as opposed to 9st 5lbs … [Read more...] about It’s Arc Weekend in Paris, and Liverpool v Man City, but Who’s Going to Win?

He told the BBC: “It's not easy. I remember our games against Chelsea, they were massive games. “To play at Anfield was always fantastic, when you were playing at home. To play at night in the Champions League was massive. “Definitely (Liverpool can win it) they are a good team. Obviously they will play against a very good team too, but I think both teams are really good and I cannot say 'it will be this one or the other one' as they are so close in so many … [Read more...] about Rafael Benitez believes Liverpool v Man City could be decided by ‘one detail’
