California’s Newsom speaks to Floridans in new ad: “Join us”
Gov. Gavin Newsom is running for reelection in California, but his latest television ad is airing in Florida. The 30-second spot scheduled to air on Fox News starting Monday takes shots at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his policies, while drawing a contrast with California. "Freedom, it's under attack in your state. Republican leaders, they're banning books, making it harder to vote, restricting speech in classrooms, even criminalizing women and doctors," Newsom says while images of DeSantis and former President Donald Trump flash on screen. "I urge all of you living in Florida to join the fight. Or join us in California, where we still believe in freedom — freedom of speech, freedom to choose, freedom from hate and the freedom to love," Newsom says. Newsom has said he has no interest in running for president, but the ad is sure to stoke speculation that the 54-year-old Democrat is eyeing national office. DeSantis is a potential 2024 GOP presidential candidate whose … [Read more...] about California’s Newsom speaks to Floridans in new ad: “Join us”
Kellogg’s loses court battle over new regulations that will ‘cost firm millions’
Breakfast food giant Kellogg’s has lost a High Court challenge against the Government over incoming food regulations that will cost the manufacturer an estimated millions of pounds in lost sales. The Coco Pops and All-Bran maker brought legal action against the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) over new regulations due to come into effect this October. Part of the regulations will restrict where certain types of food are permitted to be displayed within supermarkets or on their websites, while another part coming into force next year will ban multi-buy promotions of foods deemed high in fat, sugar or salt (HFSS). In-store promotion of HFSS foods will be limited, meaning they will not be allowed to be featured in high-profile locations such as checkouts, shop entrances and aisle ends. Recommended Over £130m handed to housing providers named and shamed by regulator At a hearing in April, Kellogg’s argued the regulations are unlawful … [Read more...] about Kellogg’s loses court battle over new regulations that will ‘cost firm millions’
Kellogg’s loses legal challenge against new government food rules for high-sugar cereals
Kellogg's has lost a legal challenge against the government over new food regulations that would stop some of its cereals being prominently displayed in shops. The maker of Coco Pops and All-Bran took legal action against the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) over the rules, which come into force this October. Under the plans, there will be restrictions on where certain types of foods can be displayed in supermarkets or on their websites. Another part of the regulations taking effect next year will ban multi-buy promotions of foods deemed high in fat, sugar or salt. Shops will not be allowed to promote these types of foods in high-profile locations such as checkouts, shop entrances and aisle ends. Advertisement Kellogg's argued the regulations are unlawful because the nutritional value of breakfast cereals will be determined by their dry weight as sold, as opposed to how they are eaten - usually with milk. End of Roe ushers in new era of funding on both sides of abortion debate
The Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade has ushered in a new era of funding on both sides of the abortion debate. With the legality of abortion now up to individual states to determine — an issue long argued over by legislators and philanthropists, when it was largely theoretical because only the Supreme Court could change it — suddenly has real-world ramifications for people across the country. And donors on both sides will now be expected to put money behind their words. "I think we will see funding that's going to be a lot less performative and a lot more realistic," said Leslie Lenkowsky, a professor emeritus in public affairs and philanthropic studies at Indiana University. Those kind of gifts are already starting to arrive. Donations are pouring in to nonprofit groups in what experts call an example of "rage giving." Yet few believe the additional funding for their causes will be enough to address the increased demand for help either for women to obtain abortions … [Read more...] about End of Roe ushers in new era of funding on both sides of abortion debate

Inside Will Smith and Jada’s ‘Scientology school for kids that opened when she was recruiting for controversial church’
A MYSTERIOUS private elementary school founded by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith was a front for Scientology where young children were quietly taught the ways of the controversial church, a former teacher claims. The New Village Leadership Academy (NVLA) started as a homeschooling operation in one of the Smith's vacant mansions in Calabasas, California, in 2007. Between 20-30 children were educated inside Will and Jada's $20 million home before they opened a bonafide school on the nearby campus of Indian Hills High School, paying $890,000 to lease a building on the site for three years. Dr. Mariappan "Jawa" Jawaharlal, an associate dean and engineering professor at California State University, served as a guest robotics lecturer at the school from 2008 to 2010. In an interview with The US Sun, Jawa claimed that teachers at the school were "put under pressure" to include Scientology education models in their classrooms. He also says that many of the school's full-time staff … [Read more...] about Inside Will Smith and Jada’s ‘Scientology school for kids that opened when she was recruiting for controversial church’
