Fabio Vieira has played down fears he is carrying a major injury after the new Arsenal signing was pictured wearing a medical boot earlier this week. Arsenal moved swiftly to secure the shock £34million transfer of the former Porto midfielder last month. The first wave of players returned to London Colney this week for the start of pre-season training, but Vieira was not among that group. Pictures subsequently emerged on social media which showed the 22-year-old wearing a protective boot on his left foot, but the creative midfielder insists it was just a precaution. He wrote on Instagram: ‘Relax guys… it’s just a precaution! I’m all okay and will be joining the Arsenal team for pre-season very soon.’ Arsenal face Nurnberg in a pre-season friendly next Friday, but that is likely to come too soon for Vieira to make his non-competitive debut. When he returns to fitness, however, he will provide competition for the likes of Martin Odegaard, who was forced to … [Read more...] about Fabio Vieira sends message to Arsenal fans after new signing is pictured wearing medical boot

World champion boxer bought his amputee mum a new leg after huge payday
Zolani Tete took up boxing at the age of eight during an uneasy upbringing in South Africa's urban township of Mdantsane to begin a journey that took him all the way to the WBO bantamweight title while helping change his mother's life. The 34-year-old bantamweight star claims to have won all but three of 400 amateur bouts before turning professional in 2006, going on to win 18 of his first 21 fights before picking up the IBF junior-bantamweight title. Three more victories followed before the first big pay day of his career came in the form of a TKO win over a previously undefeated Paul Butler in Manchester that put him on a path to WBO bantamweight title. Adele told fans she was "thrilled" as she performed her first UK gig in five years. The 34-year-old pop star performed at BST Hyde Park on Friday evening, with the sold-out crowd hearing back-to-back hits spanning across her four number one albums. Arriving on stage in a black gown, she was visibly emotional as fans screamed back the opening lyrics to Hello. In a break, London-born Adele said: "Hello, I'm so happy to be here. Advertisement "Guys, I'm back at home, also where I know. Tiger dies after contracting COVID at Ohio zoo
A tiger at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio has died after developing pneumonia caused by COVID-19. The 14-year-old Amur tiger named Jupiter "had been on long term treatment for chronic underlying illnesses, which made him more susceptible to this virus," the zoo said in a statement on Facebook. Jupiter was exhibiting signs of illness earlier this month, the zoo said. He was not interested in eating and was reluctant to stand, move or interact with keepers. After an exam and treatment, the tiger did not improve. Although he was given additional treatments and testing and appeared stable, he passed away on Sunday. Jupiter was born at the Moscow Zoo and was brought to the zoo in Columbus in 2015 after spending time at Zoo Dvur Kralove in the Czech Republic. He had nine cubs – six born at the Columbus zoo. As a precaution, zoo staff members wear masks near certain animals that are susceptible to contracting COVID-19, the zoo said. Jupiter is the first animal at this zoo to … [Read more...] about Tiger dies after contracting COVID at Ohio zoo
The True Meaning of ‘No Trespass’
I always pined for the wide open, though I grew up in suburban Maryland, hemmed in by private land and no trespass signs. Even as a boy, one with his nose in books, I knew that the East had not always been so parceled into private fiefdoms. In fact, it had once been a place where anyone could roam, more open than the West is today. It was not until years later, though, when researching a scholarly article, that I learned a clue as to why America had abandoned a centuries-long tradition and given landowners the power to close off access to so much of the country. I kept running across the same date: 1865. As obviously significant as that date is in U.S. history, the Civil War was not a conflict between ranchers and farmers. Evidently, something else was at work. Only when I dug into the records of South Carolina did an answer begin to take shape. Before 1865, from the colonial period onward, the only case of pure trespass in the modern sense that I could find nationwide came … [Read more...] about The True Meaning of ‘No Trespass’
How seaside town a stone’s throw from millionaires’ row was turned into ‘drugs capital of the South’
A SHADOWY figure races across the high street to a gaunt-looking couple. Within seconds they’re passed a small bag and he darts away through the shoppers and families. It’s not an unusual sight in Boscombe , Dorset , which for years was known as the “ drugs capital of the South” and ranked on the top 50 worst places to live in England . While the former spa town has shaken off that unsavoury title this year, locals nonetheless paint a picture of rampant drug use, street drinking and vicious attacks. It’s clearly a tale of two Boscombes, as just a stone’s throw away properties overlooking the picturesque beaches can sell for £1.5million. In the first of our Broke Britain series, where we visit towns struggling to survive amid the cost of living crisis, Boscombe locals speak of violence on the streets and a "forgotten" high street on its knees after a number of shop closures. When The Sun visited we saw rundown rows of pound shops and vacant businesses, many of … [Read more...] about How seaside town a stone’s throw from millionaires’ row was turned into ‘drugs capital of the South’

Kwasi Kwarteng: Brexit is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity we must take advantage of
Has Kwasi Kwarteng gone too far already? The new Business Secretary has spent the first few days in the job busily playing down the widely-held perception that he is a Right-winger. He has distanced himself from the more extreme free-marketeer views he espoused in the 2012 pamphlet entitled Britannia Unchained, which outlined his vision for the country. As a newly elected MP, Kwarteng – along with Liz Truss, Dominic Raab, Priti Patel and Chris Skidmore – denounced the UK’s “bloated state, high taxes and excessive regulation”, and described British workers as “among the worst idlers in the world”. And, despite being appointed less than a month ago, he has already executed his first U-turn, abandoning a post-Brexit review of workers’ rights after he was attacked for wanting to water down protections. When we meet (virtually, of course), he is adamant that much of the criticism was baseless: “People say we want to abolish workers’ rights; nothing could be further from the … [Read more...] about Kwasi Kwarteng: Brexit is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity we must take advantage of
Chelsea plan shock transfer alternative for Raphinha after £60m Brazil star snubs Blues for Barcelona move
CHELSEA are lining up a shock alternative to Raphinha after the Brazilian snubbed the Blues for Barcelona. The London club have now reportedly turned their attention to Burnley's Maxwel Cornet as they hunt for attacking options in the transfer window. Talksport report that the Ivorian is searching for a new club after Burnley's relegation and could be heading out of Turf Moor this summer. A clause in his contract means the winger could be available for as little as £17.5m. Cornet has impressed at Burnley and registered nine goals and one assist in 26 Premier League matches last season. His turn of speed and finishing ability could make him an option for the Blues, who also remain in hot pursuit of Raheem Sterling as they look to strengthen up front.
