Janna Herron USA TODAY Published 7:07 AM EDT Jun 6, 2019 Buying a home is stressful enough in today’s housing market. Try adding the extra pressure of selling your current home, too. Many homebuyers face this two-step transaction, whether they are relocating for a new job, upgrading to a new home or downsizing in retirement. Last year, 89% of repeat buyers sold or planned to sell their previous home, according to the National Association of Realtors. The key is to understand how the market is going, know your financial limitations and have plans for bumps in the road ahead of time, real estate experts say. “It’s a balancing act,” says Susan Staffordsmith, a real estate agent with CENTURY 21 Action Plus Realty in New Jersey. “It’s our job to make sure clients minimizes costs. They don’t to pay for moving twice or for storage. These things can add up to the thousands.” Here’s what you should know. Can you carry two homes? Cameron Huddleston GoBankingRates.com Published 7:53 AM EDT May 22, 2019 My husband and I have a goal of taking our three children to all 50 states by the time they graduate from high school. Already, our two daughters – who are 14 and 12 – have visited nearly half of the states. And our son, who is just 7 years old, has been to 16. Our adventures across the U.S. have taken us to a lot of cool places – some cheaper than others. But even with pricier trips, we’ve taken steps to keep vacation costs down as much as possible. Here are our favorite places to visit and how we’ve made them more affordable. Paul Davidson USA TODAY Published 5:01 AM EDT Apr 5, 2019 When Todd and Marisa Bluth bought a $188,000 starter house in Commerce City, Colorado in 2012, they figured it would take at least a decade to build enough equity and savings to trade up to their dream home. Yet just four years later, they sold the 1,600-square foot unit for $284,000, allowing them to take their nearly $100,000 profit and buy a five-bedroom nearly three times the size for what seemed like a steal -- $375,000 -- in a more upscale neighborhood. “I never thought the house would appreciate so quickly,” Todd, 34, says. “We played the market against itself.” Since the U.S. housing recovery began in 2012, affordable homes in modest neighborhoods have notched the sharpest price increases while luxury houses in wealthy neighborhoods have had the smallest percentage gains. In other words, on average, the lower the home-price tier, the more dramatic the price increase, with mid-range homes … [Read more...] about U.S. housing market: Less expensive homes rose more sharply in price
