New covid variant fears there are two covid symptoms in fully vaccinated to spot
Fact Check: Is monkeypox actually the symptoms of “vaccine-acquired AIDS”?
As cases of monkeypox have slowly grown around the world, some of the same types of wild theories popularized during the pandemic have begun a resurgence. One of these is the idea that COVID-19 vaccines actually make you more susceptible to illnesses and limits your immune system. But is there any truth to the idea that COVID-19 vaccines damage the immune system or make you vulnerable to other types of diseases? The Claim A tweet sent on 21 May, 2022, with more than 12.7k likes, suggested that despite a travel ban which does not permit some visitors into Canada who are not vaccinated against COVID-19, monkeypox has spread inside the country. This, the tweet suggests, could mean monkeypox is a cover for symptoms of a "vaccine induced autoimmune conditions." Similar tweets have been sent since. The Facts The claims on social media center on the idea that because Canada has recorded monkeypox cases , despite not allowing entry into the country without a COVID-19 … [Read more...] about Fact Check: Is monkeypox actually the symptoms of “vaccine-acquired AIDS”?
COVID: North Korea cases surge as Kim Jong Un touts ‘positive progress’
North Korea on Saturday reported more than 200,000 new patients suffering from a "fever" for a fifth consecutive day, as a coronavirus outbreak hit the isolated Asian nation. Authorities confirmed a wave of COVID-19 infections last week, possibly due to the omicron variant. This has led to concerns over the situation in the largely unvaccinated country, which also suffers from inadequate medical facilities and a food shortage crisis. At the same time, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held a meeting with top members of his ruling Workers' Party on Saturday, and praised "positive progress" in the campaign to contain the virus. He said the country's policy needs to be changed and optimized to "seize the chance of winning the battle against the epidemic," state news agency KCNA reported. North Korean leader Kim held a meeting to gauge the situation with top party members How bad is the outbreak? North Korea said Friday that nearly 10% of its 26 million people have fallen … [Read more...] about COVID: North Korea cases surge as Kim Jong Un touts ‘positive progress’
FDA advisors to meet to discuss COVID-19 shots for kids, vaccines for fall
In the wake of Pfizer's new pediatric COVID-19 vaccine data for children under the age of five, which was released on Monday, the Food and Drug Administration has set new, tentative dates for when its advisors will meet to discuss the COVID-19 vaccine applications for children. The FDA said it expects its independent Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee to convene in mid-June to discuss both Pfizer and Moderna's pediatric COVID-19 vaccines. "As we continue to address the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there are a number of anticipated submissions and scientific questions that will benefit from discussion with our advisory committee members," Dr. Peter Marks, director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, said in a statement on Monday. Although children 5 years and older already have access to a COVID-19 vaccine — and now a booster shot — through Pfizer's two-dose vaccine, on June 14, the committee will meet to discuss Moderna's emergency … [Read more...] about FDA advisors to meet to discuss COVID-19 shots for kids, vaccines for fall
COVID: North Koreans suffer amid surge in cases, food shortages
The last time Ken Eom managed to speak with his family in North Korea, they did not seem particularly worried about contracting the coronavirus . A far more immediate concern was obtaining enough food or money to buy food, he said. But he says that may have changed in recent weeks. Eom, who escaped from the North in 2010 and now lives in South Korea, says he has not been able to speak with his family since Pyongyang finally admitted on May 12 that the virus was running virtually unchecked through its population. He cannot contact them regularly as it is dangerous to try to call anyone in the North, but he fears the virus is likely to be widespread in his hometown. The illness and the strict lockdown imposed on the 26 million people in the country will add to the hardship felt by most, he said. Combined with the worsening food shortages, the situation has become "a disaster." "The last time I was able to get through to them, they did not even mention the virus," said Eom, an … [Read more...] about COVID: North Koreans suffer amid surge in cases, food shortages
COVID-19 Pandemic ‘Certainly Not Over,’ WHO Chief Says | The Daily Wire
Just when you though it was over, out comes the World Health Organization to say, not so fast. The COVID-19 pandemic is “most certainly not over,” warned Tedros Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization (WHO), on Sunday. Although deaths from a current variant of COVID-19, known as Omicron, have dropped precipitously, the WHO head said “we lower our guard at our peril,” according to the United Nations. “So, is COVID-19 over? No, it’s most certainly not over. I know that’s not the message you want to hear, and it’s definitely not the message I want to deliver,” he said. Ghebreyesus told officials gathered in Geneva for the opening of the WHO’s annual meeting that declining testing and sequencing means “we are blinding ourselves to the evolution of the virus.” In addition, he said that while billions are vaccinated against the virus, nearly one billion people in lower-income countries still are not. While some 60% of the world’s population is vaccinated, he said, … [Read more...] about COVID-19 Pandemic ‘Certainly Not Over,’ WHO Chief Says | The Daily Wire
Covid-19 linked to impaired heart function, study finds
Published 2 hours ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Related Topics Coronavirus pandemic Covid-19 is associated with impaired function of the right side of the heart, new research on intensive care patients has found. Led by experts from NHS Golden Jubilee, the Covid-RV study was carried out in 10 intensive care units in Scotland. It assessed the impact the virus had on 121 critically ill patients who required treatment on ventilators. About one in three patients showed abnormalities in the side of the heart that pumps blood to the lungs. Nearly half (47%) of ventilated patients in the study died because of Covid-19, a figure comparable to national and international death rates. The research, conducted at the height of the pandemic from September 2020 to March 2021 before the full impact of the vaccine programme kicked in, sought to help improve future … [Read more...] about Covid-19 linked to impaired heart function, study finds
Rise of hidden dementia as NHS fails to spot thousands of cases
More than 300,000 people are living with undiagnosed dementia, research has shown, amid warnings that too little is being done to ensure cases are spotted. Analysis of official figures suggested that about four in 10 cases of conditions such as Alzheimer’s are not recorded, with a fall in diagnosis rates since the pandemic . Under David Cameron, the Government set a target for 67 per cent of people with conditions such as Alzheimer's to receive a diagnosis. This was achieved until the pandemic - but now less than 60 per cent of cases are being detected, latest data have shown. Researchers said that the analysis suggested 325,862 people living in England have dementia that has yet to be diagnosed. Postcode lottery The study by Future Health, a healthcare policy research consultancy, compared the 430,857 people registered with the condition in England with estimated prevalence rates. It suggested a total of 756,719 cases. Experts have warned that difficulties accessing … [Read more...] about Rise of hidden dementia as NHS fails to spot thousands of cases
