ORR identifies issues causing Network Rail’s poor performance for South Western Railway passengers
0 Post a comment Thursday, 5 July 2018 - Transport THE Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has today called on Network Rail to improve its planning and procedures after publishing its conclusions on Network Rail’s contribution to the poor performance suffered by passengers on South Western Railway (SWR). SWR trains arriving on time dropped from 90.5 per cent in 2015-16 to 84.3 per cent in 2017-18. Sixty-eight percent of this delay was caused by Network Rail in 2017-18 (68 per cent) - which is why ORR chose to review Network Rail’s delivery to SWR.ORR found that despite the number of network-related incidents remaining stable, it is also taking longer to restore normal service and recover the service after a problem occurs. Of the issues within Network Rail’s control, ORR found:*Contingency plans had not been updated since 2011. These provide options for what action to take in cases of disruption.*Processes for how to respond to incidents, such as who should be the … [Read more...] about ORR identifies issues causing Network Rail’s poor performance for South Western Railway passengers

Landmark court victory for Maesteg homeowners in knotweed fight with Network Rail
In a 'David vs Goliath' landmark court case, two homeowners from Maesteg affected by Japanese knotweed encroaching on their homes, have had their claim for compensation from Network Rail upheld by the Court of Appeal. Stephen Williams and Robin Waistell, who own two adjoining bungalows in Llwydarth Road, Maesteg, made a claim against Network Rail - which owns the land immediately behind their properties. Japanese knotweed has been present on Network Rail's land at that location for at least 50 years and the pair first complained about encroachment on to their land in 2013. They later brought a successful claim against Network Rail and were awarded damages in February last year. Network Rail challenged that decision at a Court of Appeal hearing last month, but the court ruled that the homeowners were entitled to damages. The decision could have wider implications for landowners across England and Wales. At the Court of Appeal today, three leading judges ruled in favour of Mr Williams … [Read more...] about Landmark court victory for Maesteg homeowners in knotweed fight with Network Rail
