Slain Mexican reporter was asked to remove tweets critical of government, coworker says: “Our colleagues feel very exposed”
Mexico's president said Thursday that the killing of a reporter in the northern border state of Tamaulipas - the 12th so far this year in Mexico - may be linked to local politics. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said federal prosecutors have taken over the investigation of the killing of reporter Antonio de la Cruz as a crime against freedom of expression . De la Cruz's daughter was critically wounded in the attack Wednesday in the Tamaulipas state capital and was fighting for her life at a local hospital. On Thursday, one of the reporter's colleagues said De la Cruz had been asked, apparently by state authorities, to remove some of his tweets. "On Twitter, Antonio criticized the state government a lot and criticized the government," said fellow reporter Carlos Manuel Juárez. "He even told me at one point that they had asked him to take down some critical tweets that he put up." Juárez described the fear that reporters in Tamaulipas feel after the killing. Persona 4 Golden review – the social network
If you read our recent report on console sales in Japan you would’ve seen, in stark numerical form, exactly the depth of hole the PS Vita finds itself in. In Japan the fastest-selling game so far for the Vita has been Persona 4 Golden: an enhanced port of a four-year-old PlayStation 2 game. If you want to be uncharitable that probably says more about the Vita’s currently niche appeal than sales figures ever could. If you want to be entirely honestly though, you’d have to admit that Persona 4 Golden is one of the best role-playing games ever made. Although this is technically still a spin-off from the Shin Megami Tensei series its links to Persona 3 are obscure and references to the other games almost non-existent. The basic set-up is the same as previous Persona titles though, as you play an apparently ordinary secondary school student who is moved from the busy city to a smaller rural town. At first it seems a perfectly ordinary place, with the Japanese setting making … [Read more...] about Persona 4 Golden review – the social network
Report: Hunter Biden Used Anti-Black Racial Slurs In Multiple Messages To ‘White, $845-Per-Hour Lawyer’ | The Daily Wire
According to a new report from the Daily Mail, Hunter Biden sent multiple messages to his “white, $845-per-hour lawyer” which included anti-black racist slurs, as well as other racist comments. One text exchange from January 2019 with corporate attorney George Mesires includes the president’s son saying, “I only love you because you’re a black,” and “true dat n***a,” using an anti-black racial slur. A month earlier, Hunter Biden allegedly wrote, “how much money do I owe you. Because (sic) n***a you better not be charging me Hennessy rates.” After Mesires responded, “That made me snarf my coffee,” Hunter wrote, “That’s what im saying ni…” cutting off the racial slur “mid-word” and then texting an image. “ The picture was not downloaded on Hunter’s laptop, from which the text exchange was recovered by DailyMail.com,” noted the piece, adding that the response to the mystery image by Mesires was, “Why are you so tan?” “I’m sorry for sexting you accidentally that … [Read more...] about Report: Hunter Biden Used Anti-Black Racial Slurs In Multiple Messages To ‘White, $845-Per-Hour Lawyer’ | The Daily Wire
The Lawless Frontier
This past April in Quetta, the bleached-gray, drought-stricken capital of the Pakistani border province of Baluchistan, I awoke to explosions and gunfire. In search of the violence, my translator, Jamil, and I jumped into a four-wheel-drive Toyota and raced through the section of town inhabited by Pashtoon tribesmen. Suddenly we were surrounded by Pakistani soldiers, who forced us out of the car and pointed assault rifles in our faces. While they searched us, I saw two other soldiers with automatic weapons run along a high wall a few feet from where we stood. Shots rang out from inside the adjacent compound. By 11:00 a.m. five people had been killed and twenty wounded, and a large cache of weapons had been confiscated in a raid on the Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami (Pashtoon National People's Party), a group supporting an independent "Pashtoonistan" created out of Pakistani territory. The party stood accused of murders and kidnapping. Security forces claimed victory, but reports later … [Read more...] about The Lawless Frontier
Elon Musk’s Starlink will be ‘unusable’ under 5G plan
SpaceX will suffer major disruption of its Starlink internet service if US regulators allow 5G networks to use a certain radio frequency, Elon Musk’s company has warned. In a note to customers, SpaceX claimed that plans by Dish Network to use the 12GHz spectrum for its mobile service will cause outages for more than three quarters of Starlink users. The internet service relies on a 2,400-strong satellite constellation to beam high-speed broadband to users on the ground through the 12GHz band. A SpaceX study submitted to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) claimed that Starlink user terminals would no longer work if Dish’s ground-based network was granted the same frequency. “If Dish’s lobbying efforts succeed, our study shows that Starlink customers will experience harmful interference more than 77 per cent of the time and total outage of service 74 per cent of the time, rendering Starlink unusable for most Americans,” SpaceX wrote. In an accompanying … [Read more...] about Elon Musk’s Starlink will be ‘unusable’ under 5G plan
