Robert Crimo’s father lost mayoral race to gun-control Democrat

July 5, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

The father of a man who has been arrested in the wake of a deadly mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois reportedly ran for mayor of the city in 2019 and was defeated by a pro-gun control Democrat. Robert E. Crimo III was apprehended by police following a manhunt on Monday but has not yet been charged with any crime. He had been named as a "person of interest" following the shooting that left six people dead and dozens more injured. Crimo's father, Bob Crimo Jr., ran for mayor of Highland Park in 2019 and was defeated by incumbent Mayor Nancy Rotering, according to a number of media reports at the time and since Crimo III was arrested. The elder Crimo is a small business owner in the city of around 30,000 people and unsuccessfully challenged Rotering, a Democrat with a long history of supporting gun control measures. He owns Bob's Pantry & Deli in Highland Park and both he and Crimo III were named in a 2018 obituary for Robert Crimo Sr., the grandfather of the arrested … [Read more...] about Robert Crimo’s father lost mayoral race to gun-control Democrat

‘Senseless Gun Violence’: Biden Responds To Highland Park Shooting | The Daily Wire

July 5, 2022 by www.dailywire.com

President Joe Biden responded to the Fourth of July shooting in Highland Park , Illinois , by grieving with the victims and lauding recent gun control legislation. The 22-year-old suspect allegedly killed six people and hospitalized at least 30 others from his perch on a suburban Chicago rooftop, where police later recovered a “high-powered rifle.” Officers caught the suspect five miles north of Highland Park later on Independence Day. The Daily Wire does not name mass shooting suspects once they are in custody as part of a policy aimed at depriving them of the notoriety they often crave. Biden commented on the tragedy by noting that he offered Governor J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) and Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering (D) federal support. “Jill and I are shocked by the senseless gun violence that has yet again brought grief to an American community on this Independence Day. As always, we are grateful for the first responders and law enforcement on the scene,” Biden … [Read more...] about ‘Senseless Gun Violence’: Biden Responds To Highland Park Shooting | The Daily Wire

Officials Reveal How Highland Park Shooter Was Able To Buy Guns Despite Threatening To ‘Kill Everyone’ | The Daily Wire

July 5, 2022 by www.dailywire.com

The man accused of shooting dozens of people at a parade in Illinois on Independence Day was able to purchase the firearms used in the attack because his father co-signed his Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card, which gun owners must have in that state. The revelation comes after local law enforcement officials revealed earlier in the day that the suspect had already been on law enforcement’s radar due to a pair of incidents that happened back in 2019, including the suspect attempting suicide followed by an alleged threat to “kill everyone” several months later. The Daily Wire is not naming the suspect due to company policy about not giving notoriety to mass killers because studies suggest that the media’s coverage of mass shootings sparks more mass shootings. “At the time of the incident, [the suspect] did not have a FOID card to revoke, and did not have a pending FOID application to deny,” Fox 32 reported . “Then, in December 2019, at 19, [the suspect] applied for a … [Read more...] about Officials Reveal How Highland Park Shooter Was Able To Buy Guns Despite Threatening To ‘Kill Everyone’ | The Daily Wire

Police confiscate illegal tank from man who hoarded guns and kept fully-grown crocodile for a pet

August 31, 2018 by www.newsweek.com

Russian authorities have confiscated a World War II tank from the head of a "military-patriotic" organization after he ran himself and two children over with it. The incident took place on the St. Petersburg waterfront, where Pavel Baranenko, the proud owner of a Soviet T-60 tank, offered beachside rides for 300 rubles ($4.40), according to investigators. After taking two customers aboard in late April, Baranenko hit a snag and fell from the vehicle as his two customers tumbled over the front. "The court has ruled to confiscate and transfer in the possession of the Russian Federation, the T-60 tank, which is in the possession of the accused," said a statement from the joint press service of St. Petersburg's courts, state news agency RIA Novosti reported on Thursday. Footage of the incident taken by multiple witnesses on the beach shows the passengers struggling to keep their balance as the tank cleared a large, sandy bump. The bounce of the landing T-60 then seemingly sent the … [Read more...] about Police confiscate illegal tank from man who hoarded guns and kept fully-grown crocodile for a pet

“America is a horror movie”: July 4th shooting videos across U.S. go viral

July 5, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

At the close of Independence Day celebrations in Philadelphia, masses of people gathered to watch fireworks. But the celebrations were marred when two police officers working security were shot near the Philadelphia Museum of Art at around 9:50 p.m. local time. The gunfire prompted a stampede on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, with videos on social media capturing the panic as people ran for blocks in all directions in an effort to flee the violence. "America is a horror movie," a Twitter user wrote alongside a clip that captured the panic on the ground while fireworks continued to explode into the night sky. Another clip begins with people, including a child on an adult's shoulders, enjoying the fireworks before the panic spreads through the crowd and people start running. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said the two officers sustained graze wounds and were treated and released from the hospital. But no suspects were in custody, Outlaw told … [Read more...] about “America is a horror movie”: July 4th shooting videos across U.S. go viral

Given what we know about the suspected killer, I think it is unlikely that the massacre in Highland Park was part of an organized terror plot, but rather yet another case of a young male loser attacking his own community. Nonetheless, the effect of these mass shootings is the same as … [Read more...] about A Nation of Hostages

Marjorie Taylor Greene uses altered photo of Robert Crimo to push theory

July 5, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene posted a series of tweets Tuesday, including an image that's believed to be altered, to question the "dark" history of Robert Crimo, who is suspected of killing six people and injuring at least 38 more in Highland Park, Illinois. Crimo had posted a series of disturbing videos on the internet, and his online profiles were removed following the July 4 shooting. Greene criticized that move, arguing the best way to prevent a mass shooting is to understand the " dark and destructive path " that a suspect takes in life. Greene used the series of tweets to call into question Crimo's mental state and his potential use of drugs . She also posted a photo that showed Crimo holding a Bible in what appeared to be a jail cell. "Is he in jail or rehab or a psychiatric center in this photo? That's not his bedroom," Greene wrote . "22 yrs old and 5'11 and 120 lbs is not normal or healthy. What drugs or psychiatric drugs or both does he use?" … [Read more...] about Marjorie Taylor Greene uses altered photo of Robert Crimo to push theory

Robert Crimo’s online postings showed “desire to commit carnage”: mayor

July 5, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Robert Crimo , the man arrested in connection with the mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Illinois, previously posted several videos and images online that reflected a "desire to commit carnage," the town's mayor said Tuesday. Interviewed on NBC 's Today show, Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering was asked about the videos and images Crimo had shared online in past years. "We know that several postings really reflected a plan and a desire to commit carnage for a long time in advance," she said. "But I'm hesitant, frankly...to talk about that. I don't want other people to think this is something that needs to be glorified. This is something that needs to be diminished." Rotering's remarks came after videos and images posted on social media by Crimo, 22, were uncovered following Monday's shooting, in which six people were killed and dozens injured during a July Fourth parade. One of Crimo's videos, posted on YouTube, showed an image drawn on a computer that appeared … [Read more...] about Robert Crimo’s online postings showed “desire to commit carnage”: mayor

Chicago parade shooter planned attack for weeks, police say

January 5, 2022 by www.dw.com

The 21-year-old suspect who opened fire on a crowd celebrating US Independence Day in a suburb of Chicago planned the deadly attack for weeks, police said at a press conference on Tuesday. Seven people were killed and 30 others were injured in the attack on Monday, which took place in the suburb of Highland Park during celebrations for July 4th. On Tuesday, authorities reported the death of a seventh person who died after being hospitalized. What is the latest? After taking position on a roof overlooking the holiday parade route, the suspect fired 70 rounds into the crowd below, authorities said. The suspect also took pains to try and conceal his identity — trying to cover up facial tattoos and wearing women's clothing to try and escape. "He brought a high-powered rifle to this parade," police spokesman Chris Covelli told reporters. "He accessed the roof of a business via a fire escape ladder and began opening fire." Authorities confirmed that the shooter legally … [Read more...] about Chicago parade shooter planned attack for weeks, police say
