After his personal unpopularity dominated the campaign, Mr Morrison led his Liberal-National government to a significant election defeat in Saturday's general election. Mr Morrison kept his seat, but many of his party allies lost theirs. Geraint Thomas interview: ‘I just thought why me, what have I done to deserve this?’
The fact that Geraint Thomas is fourth favourite with the bookies to win the 109th Tour de France, which begins in Copenhagen on Friday - behind only Slovenians Tadej Pogacar and Primoz Roglic, and last year’s runner-up Jonas Vingegaard - is, frankly, pretty extraordinary when you consider where the Welshman was six months ago. Crashes at last year’s Tour de France and then, in quick succession, the Tokyo Olympics, derailed Thomas’ 2021 season. Heading into the winter, the 36 year-old was struggling both mentally and physically. Negotiations with Ineos Grenadiers over a new contract were dragging, his shoulder needed surgery. And then he got Covid at Christmas. “It was definitely the hardest time of my career looking back,” says Thomas, speaking from his hotel room after his final pre-Tour training ride on Thursday. “It was just one thing after the other. Obviously the summer was hard. I committed so much to last year’s Tour, spent so much time away from Sa and Macs [wife Sara … [Read more...] about Geraint Thomas interview: ‘I just thought why me, what have I done to deserve this?’

Frenkie de Jong ‘speaking daily’ with Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag as Xavi sets sale terms
Frenkie de Jong is in constant communication with Erik ten Hag but Manchester United and Barcelona are still yet to agree on the structure of a deal, according to reports. Ten Hag has made signing his former Ajax protege his top transfer priority this summer and, after weeks of negotiations, United thought they were close to striking a deal for a fee of around £56million in addition to various add-ons which would take the total package to £75m. But the two clubs still appear to be at odds over the structure of the deal, with Barca keen to receive a bigger guaranteed fee up front. Speaking on his Twitch show Jijantes FC, Spanish journalist Gerard Romero revealed that the Catalan club are holding out for closer to £64m up front in addition to £10m in add-ons and bonuses. Xavi has also made it … [Read more...] about Frenkie de Jong ‘speaking daily’ with Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag as Xavi sets sale terms
Scotland aiming for second independence referendum in October 2023

The senior minister told Radio Scotland: ‘The First Minister made clear yesterday that she intends to make an announcement to the Scottish Parliament in the forthcoming weeks about a route map towards a referendum which we intend to hold next October. ‘I am fully content that with the prospectus beginning to be rolled out, with the announcement that will follow on the route map on how that is going to be achieved, that we have a perfectly adequate window of opportunity both for legislation to be passed, for the opportunity for the people to scrutinise the prospectus that the Scottish Government will publish.’ Questions have loomed over whether the UK Government would allow for a second vote. While Prime Minister, David Cameron previously agreed to a Section 30 Order … [Read more...] about Scotland aiming for second independence referendum in October 2023
College Football Is Cannibalizing Itself
College-sports traditionalists were appalled last week when the Big Ten athletic conference announced that it will add UCLA and the University of Southern California to its membership in 2024—creating a seismic shift in the college-sports landscape that will generate millions of dollars in revenue for the two California powerhouse programs. This reorganization is the strongest indicator yet that college sports is cannibalizing itself. In pursuit of greater revenue from broadcast rights, schools and conferences are more and more willing to ignore traditional rivalries, customs, and regional loyalties. For now, USC and UCLA are members of the Pac-12, long the premier conference in the West. Athletes at the two schools are about to spend a lot more time traveling to play faraway new rivals in the Midwest, where the Big Ten is based. But many college football programs are going to be facing new realities. CBS Sports reported that another major conference, the Big 12, may soon peel as … [Read more...] about College Football Is Cannibalizing Itself
