Justin Trudeau is scrambling to halt further damage to his re-election campaign after a string of racist images from his past put Canada’s image-conscious prime minister at the centre of yet another scandal. Less than five weeks before the federal election on 21 October, the Liberal leader’s campaign was rocked when images emerged of Trudeau wearing blackface makeup. On Thursday, new video emerged of a third instance of Trudeau in blackface – just hours after he had apologized for wearing what he described as “racist” makeup to a costume party in 2001. The latest images came in a short, undated video clip published by Global News in which, Trudeau – his face, arms and legs painted black – waves at the camera and sticks his tongue out. The opposition Conservative party – currently neck-and-neck with Trudeau’s Liberals – confirmed it had sent the video to Global News earlier in the week. Trudeau admitted he could not remember … [Read more...] about Trudeau says he can’t recall how many times he wore blackface makeup

Mr Dunn died when his motorbike crashed into a car outside RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire on August 27. The suspect, 42-year-old Mrs Sacoolas, has been said by the US to be covered by diplomatic immunity as the spouse of a US intelligence official, though that protection is now in dispute. Harry Dunn's bereft parents today said the apology from the US spy's wife who fled after knocking him down has arrived 'seven weeks too late' and described his broken body and final words before he died. Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn have flown to New York and spoke to CBS as part of a media blitz in America to force Anne Sacoolas to give herself up and return to Britain. The suspect, 42-year-old Mrs Sacoolas, had fled to the US in the wake of the fatality outside a US spy base in Northamptonshire, claiming diplomatic immunity using her husband Jonathan's job. Sacoolas claims she was devastated by the crash and sent 'her deepest sympathy to Harry Dunn's family', in a statement released by her lawyer over the weekend. Harry's mother Charlotte told CBS' Gayle King this morning: 'Why has it taken so long? It’s seven weeks tomorrow since we lost our boy. Preparing to face New Zealand tends to keep defence coaches up all night. Since the last World Cup, the holders have scored 267 tries in 49 Tests, armed with attacking invention only Japan are able to rival. The All Blacks have failed to score a try in only two of those matches, against the 2017 Lions in the second Test and in Dublin last November when Ireland defeated them 16-9. The common denominator was Ireland’s Andy Farrell, the defence coach jettisoned by England after the last World Cup, who is again plotting the downfall this weekend of a side whose last defeat in the tournament came in the 2007 quarter-final against France. “I don’t know, you will have to ask him,” said the All Blacks attack coach, Ian Foster, when asked how Farrell managed to find ways of stalling New Zealand’s turbo-charged engine. “He does a job based on what he sees and so do we. We are assuming based on past behaviour that they will come up with a plan that they think … [Read more...] about Ireland have new plans for All Blacks in quarter-final, says Cian Healey
