Cancer charities join forces to support NE patients
A group which brings together cancer charities in the North of Scotland has launched a ground-breaking resource for those affected by cancer. In association with NHS Grampian, the online resource ‘Cancer Support North Scotland’ aims to provide information and signposting for patients, family and carers to cancer support services and organisations in the North of Scotland.The website has officially been launched by Professor Stephen Logan, Chairman for NHS Grampian and Dr Colette Backwell, Chair of the Grampian Cancer Partnership Group.Visitors to the site can view, in one location, information and signposting to the wide range of support services available from cancer support organisations in Grampian, and in future, the north of Scotland. Concern over NE losing out on fisheries funding
Concerns were raised in the House of Commons last week after it was revealed that two-thirds of Aberdeenshire bids for coastal community cash had been rejected. Figures released showed 100 local bids for support from the European Maritime Fisheries Fund were rejected by the Scottish Government. Raising this with the Scottish Secretary, Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid asked for assurances that communities such as Peterhead and Fraserburgh would benefit from a “sea of opportunity” when the UK leaves the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). Holyrood questions by the Scottish Conservatives found 45% of fish caught in Scottish waters are landed in the north east, but received just 13.7% of the £14million total fund. In contrast, 65% of applications for Shetland were granted, and 51% from Orkney were backed. Ministerial role for NE MSP
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has today nominated nine new ministers for appointment to the Scottish Government.
