More info According to animal welfare charity The Humane League, who organised this weekend’s protests, 90 percent of chickens grown today for meat do so both unnaturally fast and to staggering sizes. Such explosive growth rates, they said, can exceed the chickens’ bodies’ ability to keep up, resulting in assorted health problems , from high blood pressure and swollen abdomens to muscular diseases and even cardiac arrest. In some cases, the charity added, broiler chickens in farms grow so large prior to being slaughtered that they struggle to walk. Bosnia and WW1: The living legacy of Gavrilo Princip
By Dan Damon Published 26 June 2014 Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Tourists, historians and diplomats have been arriving in Sarajevo to commemorate the shots fired by a young Bosnian Serb assassin on 28 June 1914 - shots that sparked World War One. But the city and country are uneasy in the historical spotlight, as the tensions behind those events are still alive today. Gavrilo Princip fired twice at close range into the open-topped car carrying the heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Franz Ferdinand, and his wife Sophie. He could hardly miss - two of the bullets found their targets and the royal couple were killed. After 37 days of increasingly paranoid diplomacy, the Great Powers went to war. The Austrians hoped this would solve the problem of Slavic separatism, and it did - but only after four years of war that destroyed their empire. With such a … [Read more...] about Bosnia and WW1: The living legacy of Gavrilo Princip
Creepy footage of abandoned underground tunnel been captured by daring explorer
A photographer who has been exploring London Underground tunnels for six years has captured creepy images of an abandoned station. Callum Cromwell, shot a disused tunnel called 'Camden's Rat Hole' on his Nikon camera. The 20-year-old said the scariest moment of the shoot was hearing trains "echo" throughout the space as he filmed. The only signs of life in the eerily isolated tunnel were the graffiti-stained walls and sounds of footsteps over the rock terrain. Further scenes showed faint torchlight cast over the forgotten tracks. The abandoned Camden tunnels were originally used to transport horses and pit ponies in the 19th century. The Camden service tunnel cuts underneath the mainline tracks between Euston and Chalk Farm. "The tunnel is a place I have been wanting to explore for around five years, but it's only recently become accessible again," Callum, who is from Reading said. Callum was able to capture faint torchlight over the forgotten tracks . The only … [Read more...] about Creepy footage of abandoned underground tunnel been captured by daring explorer

Crossrail house price hotspots: Reading, Maidenhead and Slough are set to reap the benefits from Elizabeth Line opening
Crossrail may be billions of pounds over budget and three-and-a-half years late but it's finally ready to roll. This extraordinary feat of engineering is due to be put into service on Tuesday, when it will adopt its correct title of the Elizabeth Line. The Queen made a surprise visit to Paddington station this week and officially opened the line. On the line: The Thames flows through Maidenhead, which will now enjoy a direct link to Central London thanks to its new Crossrail station Linking Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east with Heathrow and Reading to the west of the capital, it will bind together existing commuter railways, accelerating cross-city travel and relieving overcrowding on the London Underground — particularly the often hellish Central Line. Commuters' journey times will be slashed; Reading to London Liverpool Street, for example, will take under an hour. RELATED ARTICLES Previous 1 Next Back to school! Black Lives Matter paid $1.8m to companies owned by founder’s relatives
The Black Lives Matter foundation (BLM) paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to its co-founder's brother and the father of her child for security and "creative services", tax filings show. The leaders of the racial justice movement received $90 million in donations amid the 2020 protests triggered by the police murder of George Floyd. But its tax filings suggest the BLM foundation is still finding its footing and currently has no executive director or in-house staff. The organisation has come under fire after its tax filing for the last fiscal year revealed it paid huge sums to a select group of consultants which included relatives or close associates of BLM's founders. Among them was BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullor's brother, Paul Cullors, whose security firm was paid $840,000. Trap Heals LLC, a company founded by Damon Turner, who fathered a child with Ms Cullors, received almost $970,000. Meanwhile more than $2.1 million was paid to Bowers Consulting. The company's … [Read more...] about Black Lives Matter paid $1.8m to companies owned by founder’s relatives
