Nanny questions to ask parents
I'M due to return to work in a couple of months, after an extended period of maternity leave, but my son is only 11 months old and I'd much rather stay at home with him.Despite this, the truth is that we need the money; the job I'm returning to is well-paid and I was always the main breadwinner in our family. Me going back to work means we won't be struggling to make ends meet as we are now, however expensive childcare turns out to be.The problem is that I hate the thought of leaving our baby with a stranger. It seems that every other week there is a story on the news about someone abusing children and I know I'd never forgive myself if something like this were to happen. How do you go about finding good childcare and are these services checked in any way? I'm also wondering if it would be possible to chat to other parents before placing our son?Sorry for all of the questions, but the situation is making me sick with worry.LBFIONA SAYS: Please don't get too stressed by this. While it is … [Read more...] about Ask Fiona: I’m worried about leaving my baby with a stranger
A MUM sparked a furious debate when she asked "Are headbands on babies chavvy?". The woman posed the question to fellow Mumsnet users after she put her baby girl in a white bow headband and her husband was "outraged". She explained that he thought the little girls' accessories were "chavvy" but that she didn't think they were and appealed for other people's opinions. People were quick to respond with their thought on the headgear, with the majority of responses against headbands on babies. One person said: "Personally I think they’re utterly ridiculous and look horrendous." While another agreed: "It’s awful. Please don’t do this to her, she’s not a Yorkshire Terrier. And if I were here I’d find it really irritating." A third person said: "Hideous. And I always feel sorry for the baby wearing them. It's probably irritating but they can't say to get it off!" While another was also concerned it would be uncomfortable for the child. They said: "I … [Read more...] about Mum sparks angry debate by asking ‘are headbands on babies chavvy?’ after her husband brands the accessory ‘trashy’
Should parents splash the cash and help out their older children? Or should their hard-earned money be spent on them alone? Users on parenting website Mumsnet are debating this exact question – and opinion is split. User jumpinline sparked the debate after she published a post on Saturday (February 10), claiming that her wealthy parents will not give her a deposit for a new home. She wrote: "My parents are quite wealthy; they have a large house with no mortgage, fancy holidays a few times a year, spend loads on clothes and meals and cars and socialising. My dad works but mother doesn't." "Recently they came into a large sum of money and are busy spending it on new furniture, redecorating, cars etc." "I'm currently trying to sell the house and I'm going to be few thousand short for a deposit on new house. Am I being unreasonable to resent them for this?" Some users have condemned the poster's entitled attitude, claiming that her parents saved and worked hard and can expect to … [Read more...] about Woman moans wealthy parents won’t give her deposit to buy house
A WOMAN has started a debate about whether a man should ask a woman’s father for her hand in marriage before making his proposal. It may be a long held tradition but, to many, the practice now seems rather outdated. One woman, who is not a fan, took to parenting forum Mumsnet to express her distaste for the tradition. She wrote: “I didn’t think this still happened. But a friend of a friend wad recently telling me that their husband had done this!“It was clear that she considered this romantic and proper, so i didn’t question it.“But, I would immediately dump anyone who thought my dad had any say in who I can marry.“Plus, my dad would laugh them out of town any way”.Many other users agreed. One wrote: “If it ‘shows respect for the parents’, why the hell is it only the dad who gets asked?“What a load of outdated b*******!”Another user argued: “I think it’s an odious custom that implies that women are … [Read more...] about Woman slams ‘outdated’ and ‘sexist’ custom of men asking fathers for permission to propose… so what do YOU think?
