The American firm sent a Mustang Bullitt with former racing driver Steve Sutcliffe – now a journalist – behind the wheel along the famous Mountain Road, which he describes as ‘the most incredible section’ of the 37.73-mile Isle of Man TT course. The 13.35-mile road, which stretches across Snaefell, could be seen as a petrolhead’s dream, as it isn’t restricted by speed limits, although laws are in place against careless and dangerous driving. Showcasing both the potential of the Mountain Road and performance capabilities of the Mustang Bullitt in the video, Sutcliffe claims the road to be ‘unlike anywhere … [Read more...] about Ford Mustang Bullitt takes on iconic TT road

Roll back the years to 1968 and the action-thriller film Bullitt, to when arguably the greatest chase scene in the whole of cinema was born as Steve McQueen, playing the role of police lieutenant Frank Bullitt, goes on the hunt for hitmen in a Dodge Charger. Behind the wheel of his ‘Highland Green’ Ford Mustang GT, Bullitt (who completed the stunt scene himself) skillfully dispatches of the bad guys following a thrilling chase through the streets of San Francisco — and thus creating an icon of the silver screen. The film is now celebrating its 50th anniversary and to commemorate the occasion, Ford has come up with this — the Mustang Bullitt. What’s new? Okay, so film tie-in cars often tend to be little more than some well-marketed stickering — but that’s … [Read more...] about First Drive: The Ford Mustang Bullitt is more than just a film tribute
Mark Phelan Detroit Free Press Published 12:03 p.m. UTC Aug 6, 2018 SAN FRANCISCO — The greatest chase scene in movie history would’ve ended a lot sooner if Steve McQueen could’ve got his hands on a 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt. The Dodge Charger that eluded McQueen’s 1968 Mustang fastback for 12 minutes of brilliant filmmaking never would have stood a chance. Just in time for the 50th anniversary of the movie “Bullitt,” the car is everything a Mustang fan or movie lover could ask for: Fast, smooth, responsive and steeped in the same effortless cool McQueen brought to the movie and the chase scene he helped choreograph and drive. The Dark Highland Green 2019 Bullitt I drove through the streets of San Francisco, surrounding hills and coastline didn’t scream for attention, but still drew admiring looks and questions. The 480-horsepower, 8-cylinder's rumbling back-pressure burps turned heads, but don’t worry, electronic exhaust controls … [Read more...] about 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt: What it’s like driving the car made famous by Steve McQueen
TWO fast Fords. Both £40k. Both very orange. But the question is: Which one is better? American muscle or European hot hatch? Let’s find out. On the left, we have the Mustang GT packing a naturally aspirated 5-litre V8. Crude and cool, rear-drive, 450hp, loud, drag-strip mode, line lock for big, smokey burnouts. (Quick fact: Mustang outsold the Porsche 911 last year.) On the right, we have the Focus RS powered by a turbocharged 2.3-litre EcoBoost. Clever tech, all-wheel-drive, 375hp, legendary pops and bangs, drift mode for donuts. Clearly, none of this mischief can ever happen on a public road or you’ll end up playing mummies and daddies with Big Vin at HMP Lincoln. So we headed to Santa Pod, Britain’s drag-racing Mecca in Northants, for a quarter-mile face-off. Actually, we gatecrashed official practice for the FIA European Drag Racing Championship, had a quick duel then drove home again.
