A KIND-HEARTED mum who pushed a LORRY up a snow-covered hill has been gifted a year's supply of free milk as a thank you. Charlene Leslie, was filmed giving a Graham’s milk truck a helping hand in Cowdenbeath, Fife, as Storm Darcy brought heavy snow and the coldest temperatures for 26 years. The mum of three, originally from Edinburgh, went viral after footage emerged online. Speaking today, Charlene said she knows the stunt was dangerous but she couldn't stand by while the HGV struggled through the flurries. She said: “I would never just stand by when I see someone in trouble. I suppose what I did was really dangerous, but thankfully the Graham’s truck got safely up the hill. "In the moment I wasn't really thinking about me, I just wanted to help." Charlene was heading to a local shop with two of her three children, Rihanna, 10 and two-year-old Hunter as well as husky dog, Alaska, when she spotted a car in trouble in Cowdenbeath high street. Mum heartbroken as boy, 4, dies after inhaling drawing pin that pierced his lung
A heartbroken mum described how she held her four-year-old son in her arms as he died after he inhaled a drawing pin. Ayla Rutherford was getting in the shower last month when she heard her family screaming downstairs. She rushed in the room to find her husband Josh, 29, performing the Heimlich manoeuvre on their little boy, Axel. The 29-year-old still had no idea what had happened when she realised their efforts were failing as Axel lost consciousness. After rushing the little boy to hospital, doctors found Axel had not been choking but had inhaled a common household drawing pin, which had pierced through his left lung and left him unable to breathe. After a week on life support and four brain death tests, the young boy tragically passed away in his parents' arms - leaving his family to agonise over how a simple piece of stationery could have taken their boy away forever. Ayla and Josh are now warning others to throw out any pins they have in their home to prevent their … [Read more...] about Mum heartbroken as boy, 4, dies after inhaling drawing pin that pierced his lung
Kids overjoyed with 10,000 new books after generous Sun readers back our Books For Kids campaign
CHILDREN deprived of books in lockdown will this weekend be able to enjoy a bedtime story – thanks to YOU, our kind-hearted readers. Click here to find out more about our Books For Kids campaign Now an amazing 10,000 new books are being distributed to schools, children’s centres, food banks, women’s refuges and family support teams up and down the country. After receiving some of the first batch, Kully Uppal, principal at Bristnall Hall Academy in Oldbury, West Mids, described the scheme as “vital” for poorer children with libraries shut and money tight. He added: “We are giving them out to families at our school who need them most. “Lockdown has been really tough, especially for children who don’t have access to books and stories at home.” … [Read more...] about Kids overjoyed with 10,000 new books after generous Sun readers back our Books For Kids campaign

SNOW and ice can make driving a real challenge for motorists and can even lead to accidents. As snow piles up around the UK, these helpful tips prepare you for challenging travelling conditions in winter . How should you prepare for safe driving in snow? Before heading off in the snow , plan your journey carefully and keep up-to-date with local weather reports . ‘I was on my bike when I heard a loud bang and my living nightmare began’
It was a bright sunny day on the morning of Wednesday 21 September, 2016. Just like any other weekday morning, I woke up my two children, Helena and Daniel, who were seven and four at the time, and got them ready for school. My husband Berat cleared away breakfast, as I put on a beautiful dress for church on one of the last warm days before autumn. When I waved my children goodbye at the school gate, I felt a sense of pride. I had been a stay-at-home mum, and although my kids are everything to me, I was so happy they were now in school and enjoying it. At 36, I finally had the freedom to focus on getting back to college to study for my PGCE and qualify as a teacher . I hopped on my bike and headed to my church in Finsbury Park, north London, to catch the 10am service. I loved cycling – for the past 13 years I used to get around London on my bike, rain or shine. I weaved through the streets and came to some busy traffic lights. I could never have predicted what was about … [Read more...] about ‘I was on my bike when I heard a loud bang and my living nightmare began’
