Christine Brennan USA TODAY Published 10:22 p.m. UTC Jul 25, 2018 The sexually graphic text messages began popping up on the phone of recently retired swimmer Caroline Burckle, a 2008 Olympic bronze medalist, when she was home in the Los Angeles area on a May evening in 2011. “They were so aggressive,” Burckle said last week to the Orange County Register, which broke the story. “I was a 24-year-old female swimmer who had retired way too young but was sick of all the (garbage),” she said. “I wanted to change lives and do different things but felt trapped.” The texts, she said, hit her “like a whirlwind.” (She said she also received a voicemail.) “I was disgusted,” Burckle said. “I felt violated, felt sad too. More than £2million worth of drugs and five Glock handguns have been seized in a major crackdown on organised crime. Detectives have hailed the haul as a major blow to senior gangland figures who run their empire from abroad. In a series of raids targeting cars, vans and lock-ups, police found £2.3million of heroin and cocaine, the guns and 200 rounds of ammunition. It is the most significant find in Police Scotland’s five-year history. The previous biggest drugs find was worth about £3million after searches of 18 properties. Officers made the latest discoveries in a series of concealed compartments in eight vehicles. Detailed forensic tests are now being carried out on the weapons to determine if any were used in recent shootings, including the murder of Euan Johnston. All connections of our local Bostik Premier league team Burgess Hill Town were celebrating well into the Mid Sussex evening as yet another miracle Houdini had just played out in front of their very eyes. In a losing performance at Harrow, which really did sum up our season, Ian Chapman and Stuart Tuck had staved off relegation back to Bostik South.To us fans we didn't give a dam about losing 3-2 as news filtered in that Tooting had also lost at Met Police. For the next 10 hours all kinds of emotion, celebrations, singing and man hugs erupted in the Harrow club house, coach home and back at HQ. Scottish Power has agreed an £11.6 billion takeover by Spanish energy company Iberdrola. The move comes three weeks after Iberdrola announced it was in talks about buying Scottish Power, which has more than five million UK customers. Iberdrola, which employs 17,000 people worldwide and is a world leader in wind power, is the latest Spanish company to target a UK firm, following deals for O2, Abbey National and airports operator BAA. If the takeover goes through, it will leave the UK with only two major quoted energy suppliers, Centrica and Scottish & Southern Energy. The offer from Iberdrola may yet flush out other bidders, particularly as the price of 777p a share came in below market hopes for a figure of around 800p. Scottish Power chief executive Philip Bowman, who led Allied Domecq before it was also taken over, said the deal enabled his company to expand its geographical and operational presence and diversify its portfolio.
