Jeremy Corbyn absolute poison with northern voters who did not trust him to keep the country safe because of his 'anti-western world view', a former Labour MP said today as she tore into the outgoing party leader. Anna Turley castigated the opposition leader after she was booted out of her Redcar seat in the North East as the Tories took it for the first time. She said that the Labour leader's politics was raised far more than Brexit when she campaigned in the working class Cleveland constituency, which voted Leave in 2016. It came as the opposition party became engulfed in a civil war over the future direction of its politics after its humiliating defeat by Boris Johnson's Conservatives. Redcar was one of a swathe of normally safe Labour seats which fell across the North of England and the Midlands. Ms Turley lost despite a majority of almost 10,000 in 2017, handing Tory Jacob Young a majority of more than 3,500. She told BBC Radio 4's Today programme this morning: 'One of the biggest … [Read more...] about ‘People didn’t trust him to put our country first’: Former northern Labour MP Anna Turley tears into Jeremy Corbyn over his ‘anti-Western world view’ saying he was poison on the doorstep
Mps who voted for brexit
BORIS Johnson is heading on a victory lap of the North today as he begins a whirlwind first 100 days with a Queen's speech, reshuffle and Brexit. The Prime Minister secured a "stonking" 80-seat majority - with many of his gains in Labour's heartland areas across the North and the Midlands. Mr Johnson, speaking outside Number 10, said he would "work round the clock" to repay the trust of those who "voted for us for the first time" - including those whose "pencils may have wavered over the ballot and who heard the voices of their parents and their grandparents whispering anxiously in their ears". 'LET THE HEALING BEGIN' Mr Johnson will make the first move to show newly-elected MPs that the concerns of their constituents will be heard with a visit on Saturday to some of those who overturned a Labour majority. He told members at an early morning rally in Westminster that, in order to retain their newfound support, the party would have to change some of its priorities. In a victory speech on … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson to visit North today as he starts whirlwind first 100 days with Queen’s speech, reshuffle and Brexit
BORIS Johnson now looks all but certain to become Prime Minister. Tory Remainers had better start getting used to it. Because collapsing his new Government over a No Deal Brexit, as some are absurdly threatening, would be an act of staggeringly stupid self-harm. There are two likely results from the snap election they would force on Boris. One is that he wins a majority, as polls indicate he might, and pushes through a Brexit they despise anyway. The other is they hand power to Corbyn’s Marxists, green-light the transformation of our economy into Venezuela’s and destroy their own party forever. Alternatively they could actually support Boris, who plainly shares many of their beliefs and has committed to prioritising a new deal over No Deal. That said, PM Boris is not nailed-on yet. And however much his supporters want a swift coronation he MUST face proper scrutiny first. No matter how far ahead he is he must be rigorously tested, over facts and details, in live … [Read more...] about Tories could burn another PM in Boris Johnson — by a coronation or over Brexit
Answer, Boris BORIS Johnson needs an answer tonight for the only question that really matters. How will you ensure Brexit happens on October 31, as you have promised? Brussels and Labour are interested only in blocking and sabotage. The EU currently refuses to improve the deal or fix the backstop. Labour, with Remainer Tories and their puppet Speaker Bercow, aim to prevent No Deal. What then, Boris? If the answer is an election — in the hope of exposing Labour, winning back Brexit Party voters and securing a Tory majority — our apparent Prime Minister-in-waiting had better admit it.If his answer is more delay, likewise. A fudge won’t work. Everyone can see the problem. He hasn’t even got the job yet, but Boris’s first big test comes on TV later. Roring him on TORY MPs voting for Rory Stewart today are guilty of the same self-indulgence as the nitwits who wrecked Labour by giving Corbyn his undeserved chance in 2015.The difference being that unless … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson, how will you ensure Brexit happens on October 31 as you promised?
DITHERING Jeremy Corbyn will reportedly let his MPs campaign for Remain and Leave in another referendum. The Labour leader has given up trying to unite his warring party around a single position. He has privately agreed to give his shadow cabinet a free vote, BBC’s Newsnight reported. The move means Labour will go into the next election promising to negotiate a deal which many shadow ministers will campaign to reject.LABOUR'S CIVIL WAR Emily Thornberry, John McDonnell and Barry Gardiner have all said they will campaign against a Labour Brexit deal if there is another vote. Labour’s Brexit civil war was reignited yesterday when party deputy Tom Watson broke ranks to call for a second referendum before an election, and to demand Labour backs Remain.Speaking in London, he said there is “no such thing as a good Brexit deal”. Mr Corbyn, on a trip to the Midlands, hit back: “It’s Tom’s view — I don’t accept it, I don’t agree with … [Read more...] about Jeremy Corbyn gives up on uniting Labour and will let his MPs campaign for Leave or Remain in another Brexit referendum
