Zhou Guanyu involved in serious multi-car crash at British Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu was involved in a severe, multi-car crash at the start of the British Grand Prix. At lights out, Mercedes driver George Russell was clipped by AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly, in turn hitting Zhou with his Alfa Romeo flipping upside down and sent skidding into the barriers at high-speed, with the car flying into catch fencing. The incident bought out the red flag at the Silverstone with several other cars including Esteban Ocon, Yuki Tsunoda, Sebastian Vettel and Alex Albon also receiving heavy damage. Russell seeing the incident stopped his car off the track and immediately ran over to the wreckage to help Zhou. The Chinese driver was stuck in his car for some time but thankfully emerged from his Alfa Romeo, and while he was carried off on a stretcher his team have said that he is fine. Nearly two hours later, the FIA announced that Zhou had left the medical centre, while Albon has gone to the local hospital as a precaution. ‘I’m ok!’ – Zhou Guanyu reacts after heavy crash at British Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu has thanked fans for their support after the Alfa Romeo driver crashed heavily at the start of Sunday’s British Grand Prix. As the lights went out for the race at Silverstone, AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly clipped the Mercedes of George Russell, sending the Brit into the side of Zhou and flipping his car upside down. The Alfa Romeo subsequently skidded at high-speed towards the barriers at Abbey Corner before landing into the catch fencing. Almost an hour after the crash, the grand prix restarted with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jr. taking his first ever Formula 1 victory, and during the race the FIA announced that Zhou was okay and had been discharged. He was later pictured talking to F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and took to Twitter to update fans of his condition, saying: ‘I’m ok, … [Read more...] about ‘I’m ok!’ – Zhou Guanyu reacts after heavy crash at British Grand Prix
Max Verstappen “doesn’t need love” from F1 fans as Lewis Hamilton comparison made
Max Verstappen doesn’t need Silverstone’s affection - but says that the British crowd will take him to their hearts if he puts on ‘a damn good show.’ The reigning champion has always been left in the shade by Lewis Hamilton as punters have favoured their home favourite. With George Russell now competing for attention and Lando Norris growing his band of supporters, space is tight in the hearts for those attending the Northamptonshire circuit. But Damon Hill believes that if the Dutchman keeps serving up fast and furious action that he will soon boast his own army of support. Hill said: “Max is a thoroughbred racing driver. He doesn’t seem to be interested in anything other than getting into the car - winning races - and then going home to live his life. “He’s not sentimental about anything. He’s very smart. He’s impressed me with his maturity - even from the early days when he was 17 years old. At that age, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. He’s always … [Read more...] about Max Verstappen “doesn’t need love” from F1 fans as Lewis Hamilton comparison made
How Max Verstappen has changed since ‘dethroning’ Lewis Hamilton in F1 title battle
Max Verstappen has "built on his experience from last year" and matured into a better racer, according to his team boss. Christian Horner has heaped praise upon the Dutchman, who attracted criticism from some fans and pundits for his aggressive racing style while challenging Lewis Hamilton for the 2021 title. The Red Bull chief feels his success in that battle has helped him to race more calmly. "[Verstappen] did a hell of a job last year," Horner explained on the F1 Nation podcast. "Think back to some of the races that he drove under immense pressure. Austin stands out to me as one of the races towards the end of the campaign. "But again, the racing this year has been excellent, and the cars can follow a bit closer. We've seen that across these eight races or nine races so far. So yeah, he's definitely built on his experience from last year, and you can see that having won that world championship, he's just driving with even more maturity." His words echo those of Sky … [Read more...] about How Max Verstappen has changed since ‘dethroning’ Lewis Hamilton in F1 title battle
Red Bull boss Christian Horner condemns Nelson Piquet’s vile racist abuse of Lewis Hamilton after British Grand Prix
RED BULL chief Christian Horner has slammed Nelson Piquet for his sickening racial abuse of Sir Lewis Hamilton. Video footage emerged last week of the three-time world champion using the N-word to describe the Brit . Piquet's comments were widely condemned by the F1 world, who rallied behind Hamilton and presented a united front on the discrimination in the sport. And days after axing junior driver Juri Vips for using racist language , Red Bull supremo Horner has echoed that sentiment. He said: “First of all, we are appalled by Nelson’s comments and it’s from an interview from some time ago. “But we’ve obviously had an instance with one of our young drivers earlier, or at the end of last week, and we took very definitive action when he made a racist comment.
