Children can make their mams a home-made treat at Beamish as the outdoor museum is planning to lay on some special activities on Mother's Day. During a family day-out at the County Durham attraction, visitors can mark big day - March 31 - by making an individual gift which will have that extra-special touch. The 1940s Farm, 1900s Pit Village and Polkerley Old Hall will be hosting Mothering Sunday crafts, inviting youngsters to make a fuss of their mams by making them a hand-made present on a day which Beamish says it is dedicating to mothers. Besides learning about the origins of Mother's Day, children can make paper flowers at the pit village school and can then stop off at Polkerley to decorate a pot as well as plant a Georgian bulb to take home. AN alcoholic Russian maniac tied up his mum and burnt down her flat while she was still inside after a row on Mother's Day. Russian police are hunting Vladimir Skakalin, who lived with his mother in her fourth-floor flat before he set it alight and sat down to watch the flames. The shocking incident occurred int he city of Volgograd in south-western Russia on the country's Mother's Day on 25th November. Skakalin, who is said to have alcohol problems, reportedly argued with his mother before tying her up lighting a fire. His mother only managed to escape from the flat while her son was distracted by the blaze. Neighbour called the emergency services. She was hospitalised with with multiple burns and their neighbours, surnamed Korzhov, were also taken to hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning caused by the fire. The Interior Ministry wants to give parental holidays equal treatment.Interior Minister Kai Mykkänen said making flag-flying on Father’s Day official was an issue of gender equality. At the moment, flying the flag on the second Sunday in November—Fathers' Day—is an established custom and not stipulated by law as is the case with Mother’s Day in Finland. ”It’s time to give mothers and fathers the same credit when it comes to official flag days,” Mykkänen said in a ministry release. Finland has six flag days when the law calls for the flag to be flown from public buildings.
