School age children in Calderdale can wait up to FIVE years for an autism assessment, leaving parents and carers very worried about obtaining a timely diagnosis and access to support. The shock statistic was revealed in Calderdale Health and Wellbeing Board’s annual report for 2017-18 and led to calls for action from groups which support children who have the life-long condition, their families and carers.In the case of pre-school age children the wait for assessments is less, but is still one year.Nationally, new research this summer by former Health Minister, Liberal Democrat Norman Lamb MP, has revealed children and adults face waits of more than two years for an autism assessment and over three years for a diagnosis in some areas.The National Autistic Society said that the “shocking” findings should act as a wake-up call for the Government and local services.Norman Lamb said it was an issue both national and local government should tackle.“These scandalous … [Read more...] about School age kids face five year wait for autism tests in Calderdale

The Scottish actress will play “fierce and heard-working” family liaison officer Detective Sergeant Lisa Armstrong in the series, set in the Lancashire coastal town of Morecambe. The six-part drama, written by playwright Daragh Carville, sees Lisa assigned to a missing persons investigation, although it soon becomes apparent she has a personal connection with the family involved, putting everything at risk. The Bay’s first three episodes will be directed by Lee Haven Jones, who has worked on Vera and Shetland, and the final three will be directed by Robert Quinn, who has worked on Ackley Bridge and No Offence. Photos taken at a Cambridgeshire park show camera crews on set filming new scenes for ITV drama Grantchester. Filming for series four is well underway, with some of the stars spotted in front of the camera at Grantchester Parish Church. Actor Tom Brittney plays a new character, Reverend Will Davenport, who will replace crime-fighting vicar Sidney Chambers, portrayed by James Norton, who previously announced this would be his last series. Brittney, who is best known for playing Jeremy Foster in the first series of Outlander, had been spotted in July while filming and now the cast have returned to film scenes in the picturesque village this week. On joining Grantchester, Tom Brittney said: "I am beyond excited.
