Elsewhere, new Sherlock episodes are due to be added as well as films including John Hughes classic The Breakfast Club and horror thriller Knock Knock starring Keanu Reeves. The only seats left in the Brixton Ritzy for the final Hunger Games movie last night were so bad that my clan and I were craning our necks at the screen from an angle of 30 degrees. Not great for the 3D, but proof that the movie industry’s hopes of a trio of smash hits before Christmas — Bond, Mockingjay and Star Wars — were well-founded. Weirdly though, given the hype for Katniss Everdeen’s final adventure, box-office figures for its opening weekend weren’t up to those of previous instalments even though this last one — Mockingjay Part II — is better than Part I. With $247 million (£162 million) takings worldwide — $17.1 million in the UK — it fell short of the $300 million forecast. Part of the problem is that there wasn’t enough dramatic material to sustain spreading Mockingjay over two instalments, hence the weakness of Part I. Lionsgate, the producers, decided to risk plot for profit. But despite the … [Read more...] about Jim Armitage: Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2’s $101 million opening reveals demand for movies
The last instalment of the Hunger Games film series wasn’t quite the dramatic finale studio bosses may have been hoping for, having pulled in the lowest opening weekend takings of the franchise. ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” topped the weekend box office in the US and became the year’s fifth largest debut with takings of $101 million (£66.7 million). However, that was below the $158.1 million high for the series scored by 2013's ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ and short of analyst predictions for $120 million. The miss has already hit shares in studio Lionsgate, which fell 3% on Friday. Globally the film made $247 million, shy of the $274.9 million for ‘Mockingjay – Part 1’ and the $300 million pencilled in by some forecasters. It made $17.1 million in Britain. "The overall marketplace is slow," Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Rentrak, told Variety. "There's too many movies, too many … [Read more...] about Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 has worst debut of franchise

Murray Close/Lionsgate May the odds be ever in their favor. The silence of Josh Hutcherson's character speaks volumes in a new teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay–Part 1. Amid a white background, his character, Peeta Mellark, stands with a pained look beside President Snow, played by Donald Sutherland, as the malevolent leader makes his official Panem Address from the Capitol. The two also sport all-white suits. "Your districts are the body," Sutherland says in the propaganda video, which was released on Wednesday, June 25. "The capitol is the beating heart. Your hard work feeds us and in return, we feed and protect you. But if you resist the system, you starve yourself. If you fight against it, it is you who will bleed. I know you will stand with me, with us, with all of us, together, as one." Tributes, welcome to the revolution and get ready for your first look at The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1! The first poster, which reveals the third film's logo, was unveiled on The Hunger Games' Facebook page on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The fiery and bold image features the iconic Mockingjay, a pin that belongs to our heroine, the "Girl on Fire" Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). The Mockingjay eventually becomes a symbol of rebellion and hope for the oppressed districts of Panem. Unlike the two previous film posters, the golden bird is free and is fully spreading its wings to soar against a ring of fire and a black background. The poster for The Hunger Games shows the Mockingjay with its wings clipped and engulfed in furious animated flames, while The Hunger Games: Catching Fire art gradually shows the bird starting to let its wings fly. The third movie in the four-film franchise, based on the young adult trilogy by Suzanne Collins, tells the story of Katniss' journey as she … [Read more...] about The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1 Poster Revealed—Check it Out!

PHOTOS: Look back at The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 premiere Meanwhile, Hemsworth, Hutcherson and Lawrence share the Oct. 9 cover of Entertainment Weekly and open up about the 152-day The Hunger Games: Mockingjay shoot. "I was excited about the scene at the end of the movie when I shoot my arrow—I won't give it away— because when I was doing my archery training at age 20, that was always the scene I pictured. Five years ago I used to look at a stack of hay and pretend that it was this moment, and now it is here," Lawrence recalls to the magazine, adding, "It was CGI, so let's just say I nailed it." Hutcherson says he was most nervous to shoot the scene "where Peeta had to freak out and lose his mind. I was more excited than nervous, but then right before we shot, I realized I hadn't planned on what the hell I was going to do. And then they say 'Action.' You're like 'Ah!' And you just kind of do it." Lawrence thinks it's his best work. In case you haven't taken a peek at Twitter today, the cast of The Hunger Games made fans go wild when they arrived at Hall H at Comic-Con in San Diego on Thursday to promote the final flick in the franchise The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part 2. During the panel, the latest trailer for the Francis Lawrence-directed flick also premiered, and while we'll have to wait until a later date to view the full video, a pretty satisfying teaser has been posted on the official Mockingjay 2 Twitter page. The clip sees the disciplined District 13 army wearing all white while doing military drills before Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), who is sporting the same badass red suit she wore in the most recent teaser poster, marches to the front of the crowd as the words "Stand With Us" flash across the screen. Twitter How perfect for President's Day. In anticipation of Tuesday's big release of The Hunger Game: Mockingjay—Part 1 on Digital HD, the powers that be released a hefty deleted scene for the masses to savor yesterday—and fittingly, the three-minute clip featured more of the snowy-haired dictator we love to despise, Donald Sutherland's President Snow. Somehow, Snow is even more obsessed with taking down Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen than we could have imagined. There's just something so creepy about him watching and re-watching an intense hug between Katniss and Josh Hutcherson's Peeta during the Hunger Games, and then being interrupted by his sweet (for now, since she's a Capitolist after all) granddaughter on an incoming video call. Kinda like the kid walked in on grandpa in the middle of porn time.
