· March 4, 2021 ·

DAREDEVIL Dick Sheppard, a stunt driver and showman who worked on the Italian Job and James Bond films, has died at the age of 90. The dad-of-nine boasted that he had wrecked 2,003 cars, appeared in 500 films and held 18 world records during his career. His death on March 1 was announced by his family on his Facebook page today. They said "Fondly known by many for his obsession with cars and motorbikes he was truly a larger than life character who caught the public's attention with his daredevil stunts and world records. "His final wishes, however, were that we his family might grieve in private so we can reflect on his other roles as husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather." At one point in his career, he held the most records in the Guinness World Book Of Records, though the title was later claimed by New Yorker Ashrita Furman. Sheppard was said to have destroyed over 2,000 cars while filming his mind-bending stunts for film and television. Russian ‘Popeye’ who injected triceps with OIL has life-saving surgery to remove ‘rotting’ fake muscles

· March 4, 2021 ·

A RUSSIAN bodybuilder dubbed 'Popeye' has undergone life-saving surgery to remove rotting flesh from his arms after he injected them with oil. Kirill Tereshin, 24, faced his second round of surgery to clear his clogged-up triceps, removing the dead muscle and draining his arms of excess fluid caused by the substance. Doctors warned Tereshin he risked losing the use of his arms after he injected himself with Synthol oil to create cartoonish, bulging muscles, and shared the footage with his 350,000 Instagram followers. The former soldier admitted his health woes were "due to my own stupidity" after he started bulking up his arms at age 20. Tereshin, from the city of Pyatigorsk in the Russian region of Stavropol Krai, had the corrective surgery delayed by nearly a year due to the coronavirus pandemic. "I'm only 24, and my immune system is so far coping with this inflammation, but I really do not know what will happen next," he said. "That is why I started the … [Read more...] about Russian ‘Popeye’ who injected triceps with OIL has life-saving surgery to remove ‘rotting’ fake muscles

Inside UK’s top-secret Porton Down lab where plague, Covid and nerve agents are held

· March 4, 2021 ·

Nestled amongst rolling hills of English countryside, Porton Down's stunning surroundings give little hint at the deadly secrets it holds. The armed guards and police surrounding the high-containment scientific facility in Wiltshire however, certainly do. Having opened in 1916 in response to Germany's creation of Chlorine Gas during WWI, the UK developed its first 'War Experimental Station' - a top secret government laboratory that has since housed some of the world's most deadly substances. From vials of plague, where a few drops alone could kill hundreds of thousands, to coronavirus variants being tested for transmission rates and vaccine response - the 7,000 acre site, better known as Porton Down, is one of the most secure and secretive in the country. And while the Chemical Weapons Convention saw a ban on the production and stockpiling of deadly pathogens in 1963, Porton Down is the only place in the UK permitted to create nerve agents - such as Anthrax, Chlorine Gas and … [Read more...] about Inside UK’s top-secret Porton Down lab where plague, Covid and nerve agents are held

Multi-gen family holidays are big summer 2021 trend – as Brits plan to make up for lost time with loved ones

· March 4, 2021 ·

Brits are planning to make up for lost time with loved ones by taking extended family with them on their next holiday. A poll of 2,000 adults found hardly seeing their nearest and dearest during the past 12 months has left 68 per cent chomping at the bit to do something special with them. And 41 per cent see a bumper family holiday as the perfect way to do this – hoping to take as many as five loved ones away with them in addition to their immediate family. Grandparents, aunties and uncles were deemed the most likely companions to bulk out the holiday party. It also emerged 40 per cent of those polled believe their families have never needed a holiday more than they do now. A spokesman for Jet2holidays, which commissioned the research, said: “Spending quality time with family is incredibly special and something many people haven’t been able to do this past year. “Quality time with loved ones - somewhere away from the same four walls - is what people are looking … [Read more...] about Multi-gen family holidays are big summer 2021 trend – as Brits plan to make up for lost time with loved ones

‘Britain’s travel industry is in a perilous state – it needs help… now’

· January 27, 2021 ·

Consumer confidence is everything for the UK travel trade and these new hotel quarantines – necessary as they are in the fight against mutant Covid strains – are going to dent it. So it’s absolutely crucial that the Government does not allow this strategy to remain open-ended. Britain’s holiday and aviation industries are in a desperately parlous state and need to know the timeline for a clear exit route, so they can make plans. Likewise, the public needs solid assurance from Downing Street that it will do everything possible to allow summer holidays to go ahead safely - once the vaccination programme has kicked in - and they can book with confidence. What really does not help are TV news appearances from junior ministers saying ‘don’t book a summer holiday’. We are still in the depths of winter and there are many secure, flexible booking options available for the peak season. Why make unnecessary blanket statements that simply trample all over that consumer confidence? … [Read more...] about ‘Britain’s travel industry is in a perilous state – it needs help… now’
