Mid-week hangovers are on the rise in the UK, as a new social trend of heading to the pub on a Wednesday or Thursday instead of a Friday grows in popularity. Working from home means city workers are less likely to head into their office on a Friday, with most preferring to commute during the middle of the week. A consequence of this means that Wednesday evenings are becoming the new party night. Bar and restaurant owners say, because the overwhelming majority of office staff stay at home on Friday, that Wednesday is the new Thursday, and Thursday is the new Friday. Wednesday and Thursdays nights are becoming the most popular week day to party in cities according to some hospitality bosses, as more workers commute into the office mid-week than on Fridays and head to the pub after Freespace, a technology company that has 120,000 workplace sensors in offices across the country, has released new data that shows that under 15 per cent of desks were occupied last Friday. … [Read more...] about Wednesday night is new party night in city centres as rise in WFH shrinks the working week, figures show

Man City target Kalvin Phillips as Erik ten Hag faces Man Utd transfer battle
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has targeted England ace Kalvin Phillips as a possible replacement for outgoing defensive midfielder Fernandinho. Guardiola is expected to join bitter rivals Manchester United and Liverpool in the battle to land the Leeds midfielder this summer in a deal which could potentially be worth £60m. Brazilian international Fernandinho has already announced he is leaving the Etihad at the end of the season and Guardiola believes Phillips would be the ideal addition to his squad. Guardiola will need a new holding midfielder and believes Phillips is one of the best in the business in the Premier League. Guardiola, who is also interested in West Ham's Declan Rice but believes he will prove too expensive, has had Phillips watched several times this season. Phillips, 26, is expected to leave Leeds this summer if the Yorkshire club get relegated from the top flight. Aston Villa and the Hammers both had bids for him of up to £55m rejected in the … [Read more...] about Man City target Kalvin Phillips as Erik ten Hag faces Man Utd transfer battle
Arsenal respond to Man City’s Gabriel Jesus asking price
Arsenal are considering alternative targets after they were informed of Manchester City ’s £55million asking price for Gabriel Jesus. The Brazil international is expected to inform Pep Guardiola of his desire to leave City in the summer after Sunday’s final game of the Premier League season. Jesus has played an increasingly influential role this term but the impending arrivals of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez will increase the level of competition for a starting place. Arsenal’s transfer budget is unlikely to be significantly impacted by their likely failure to secure Champions League qualification and have held preliminary talks with Jesus’ agent. Speaking last week, Marcelo Pettinati said: ‘We had discussions with Arsenal about Gabriel Jesus and yes, we like the project. ‘It’s a serious possibility so we’re discussing. ‘There are six more clubs interested in Gabriel Jesus, he’s now focused on final games with Manchester City, then we’ll see what … [Read more...] about Arsenal respond to Man City’s Gabriel Jesus asking price

Jordan Henderson ‘might call Steven Gerrard’ ahead of Liverpool and Man City showdown
Jordan Henderson has joked he may call former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard ahead of Aston Villa's final day trip to Manchester City . If the Reds are to nick the Premier League title from under the nose of Pep Guardiola , they require a big favour from Gerrard's team at the Etihad. For Liverpool to be crowned champions, they need to beat Wolves at Anfield and hope that Villa can get a result at the home of the reigning title holders. Gerrard famously never won the league during his time on Merseyside. But he could play kingmaker on the final day. And Henderson joked he could give his old pal a call to remind him of what's at stake this weekend. "We’ve had this [needing Man City to lose] before when they played Brighton," Henderson told Sky Sports. "The crowd cheer and you sort of know what’s going on – it’s hard to focus on the game. "But hopefully, from that experience, we’ve learned from it and we can just concentrate on the game and concentrate on what … [Read more...] about Jordan Henderson ‘might call Steven Gerrard’ ahead of Liverpool and Man City showdown
Arsenal eye Man City star Ilkay Gundogan but may have blown hopes with Newcastle meltdown
Arsenal are set to test the waters with a move for Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan but their lack of Champions League football may have scuppered any potential deal. Mikel Arteta 's side had looked destined to secure a spot in Europe's primary competition but a monumental meltdown has seen arch-rivals Tottenham leapfrog them ahead of Sunday's end of season finale. Two points shy of the old enemy with a vastly inferior goal difference, the Gunners are now left hoping Spurs bottle it in typical fashion to bottom-of-the-table Norwich City . But Tottenham have shown a mettle and a grit that is far different to the weak mentality of previous campaigns. Since his arrival in November, Antonio Conte has taken 53 points from a possible 81 and Spurs look set to finish above Arsenal for a sixth consecutive season. Whilst Tottenham have soared, Arsenal have capitulated. Thursday's damaging north London derby was compounded by a further dismal showing on Tyneside as … [Read more...] about Arsenal eye Man City star Ilkay Gundogan but may have blown hopes with Newcastle meltdown
Vladimir Putin has killed more in Ukrainian city than Hitler did during WW2, mayor says
Vladimir Putin has killed twice as many people in Mariupol than Adolf Hitler did during World War 2, the Ukrainian city's mayor has claimed. In a grave warning to western allies, Mayor Vadym Boychenko said that the number will only increase if more pressure is not piled on the Russian President. Boychenko is firefighting a crisis of a huge scale, with 82 days of bombardment and decomposing bodies infiltrating the water supply, thus triggering a deadly epidemic. After months of bombardment, Ukraine ’s military said on Monday it was ending its combat mission as evacuations at the embattled Azovstal steel plant commenced. Around 260 Ukrainian fighters were taken to Russian-held territory and Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said they will exchange them for Russian prisoners of war. Texas City Considers Declaring State Of Emergency Over Border Crisis | The Daily Wire
The border city of El Paso, Texas, is considering plans to declare a state of emergency over the growing border crisis, according to a Wednesday press release from city officials. Deputy City Manager Mario D’Agostino shared the concern that the city council expects to vote on next week. “We are extremely grateful to all our partners including the NGOs, the County, State and Federal leaders who understand the extraordinary collaborative lift that is required,” D’Agostino said in the statement. The move is the latest in a series of events in the city concerning the growing number of illegal immigrants entering the community. Nearly 100 migrants were released into El Paso’s downtown last week as shelters and federal facilities reached capacity. “The migrants were released before dawn, and some quickly made plans to travel on to other cities, while others lingered on the streets of El Paso or at the airport — too broke to leave or book a hotel,” the New York Post reported . … [Read more...] about Texas City Considers Declaring State Of Emergency Over Border Crisis | The Daily Wire
Ukraine Army secures Kharkiv, second-largest city, pushes to Russian border
After securing the territory around Kyiv, the capital city in late March, Ukrainian forces have begun pushing Russian soldiers away from cities farther east. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense published a video on Sunday showing troops of a Kharkiv region territorial defense unit reclaiming control over a section of the state border with Russia. Kharkiv, the country's second largest city, had been one of the population centers hardest hit since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion on February 24. "Mr. President, we have arrived at the border of the Russian occupier," announced a Ukrainian officer in the video, standing with his men at a post demarcating Ukrainian from Russian territory. The following day, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky responded with a video address of his own: "Guys. Kharkiv. To the 227th battalion and to the 127th brigade of the territorial defense, thank you. My gratitude to you has no borders." Although these are significant gains for the … [Read more...] about Ukraine Army secures Kharkiv, second-largest city, pushes to Russian border
