iPad Mini will be replaced by GIANT ‘biggest ever’ 7.5-inch iPhone, shock Apple ‘leak’ claims

· February 23, 2021 ·

APPLE is reportedly working on a giant, foldable iPhone that will replace the iPad Mini in the California firm's gadget line-up. The high-tech mobile will boast a massive screen measuring 7.5 inches, dwarfing the next biggest iPhone ever made, according to Chinese media. It follows multiple reports that Apple is working on a foldable handset to take on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X . The device is rumoured to bend via a complex hinge that allows it to close like a clamshell. It's expected to cost upwards of £2,000. According to Chinese news site MyDrivers , Apple will use the phone's launch to axe one of its most popular tablets. The 7.9-inch iPad Mini will get the chop in favour of the foldable iPhone, which like the tablet will offer stylus support. It would be a sensible move for Apple, which has been guilty of cannibalising its own sales by offering similar products in the past. Last year's iPhone 12 Mini, for instance, has not … [Read more...] about iPad Mini will be replaced by GIANT ‘biggest ever’ 7.5-inch iPhone, shock Apple ‘leak’ claims

Martin Lewis warning to apply for £5,000 Green Homes Grant vouchers after rumours it could be axed

· February 27, 2021 ·

MARTIN Lewis is urging eligible households to apply for £5,000 Green Homes Grant vouchers amid rumours the scheme could be pulled. The Green Homes Grant initiative gives families money to spend on energy-saving measures around their home, such as insulation or a better boiler. The government says households could save more than £200 annually on energy bills thanks to the scheme. But speaking during his Martin Lewis Money Show on ITV last night, Martin said rumours are spreading that the project could close in March. The government has yet to officially make an announcement on whether these reports are true. The Green Homes Grant scheme has already been plagued with controversy, with funding to be slashed by around £1.5billion from April. What is the Green Homes Grant? THE Green Homes Grant sees the government cover at least two-thirds of the cost of certain green upgrades, up to a maximum £5,000. For example, a homeowner would pay £1,320 of a £4,000 … [Read more...] about Martin Lewis warning to apply for £5,000 Green Homes Grant vouchers after rumours it could be axed

The future of the automobile lies in bytes not horsepower

· January 2, 2021 ·

If you buy a conventional car these days, you may rest assured that nothing basic will change in your automobile for, let's say, the next seven years until you will, statistically, buy a new one. In the not too distant future, however, you may have to be prepared for your good old vehicle to get an overhaul "every three months," says Claus Gruber, an expert for automotive software at the Strategy& consultancy. "You'll likely get permanent software updates on your car's functional and safety features, similar to those you get on your smartphone or laptop computer already today," he told DW. Gruber is an engineer and co-author of a Strategy& study of the fundamental challenges faced by global automakers as the industry moves into a future dominated by IT-based technology solutions . Under its most likely scenario, the consultancy expects carmakers' software development costs to double over the next 10 years, with the outlay for autonomous driving solutions estimated to be … [Read more...] about The future of the automobile lies in bytes not horsepower

Manchester Arena inquiry: Firefighters were ‘in tears’ after failing to attend 2017 bombing which killed 22

· March 2, 2021 ·

Firefighters were in tears and turned their backs on a senior commander at a debrief as they sought answers from senior officers about why they had not been deployed to the scene of the Manchester Arena attack, the inquiry has heard. The inquiry was told that a tearful paramedic approached firefighters and asked why they were "just stood around" at a fire station a mile from the attack . Group Manager Alan Topping, duty command support officer on the night of the attack, told the inquiry that firefighters were ashamed and emotional in the aftermath of the attack in which the service did not arrive at the scene until two hours after the explosion. The officer, who had 29 years of experience, is the first who was present on the ground to give evidence to the inquiry and said that by the time firefighters arrived it was too late to help. John Cooper QC, for the victims' families, asked about a "hot" debrief soon after the attack with Assistant Chief Fire Officer Geoff … [Read more...] about Manchester Arena inquiry: Firefighters were ‘in tears’ after failing to attend 2017 bombing which killed 22
