Dominic Cummings has claimed that Boris Johnson repeatedly told colleagues ‘I’m the f***ing Fuhrer around here’. The Prime Minister’s former chief aide – turned arch critic – suggested Mr Johnson ‘doesn’t think he did anything wrong’ during the partygate scandal. The intervention follows the publication of the Sue Gray report today, which laid bare the scale of partying in Number 10 during the Covid crisis. Mr Cummings, who himself caused widespread public outrage with a trip to Barnard Castle during lockdown, has repeatedly called for the PM to go and made a series of remarkable claims about his former boss’ conduct. Now he has suggested that the PM thinks he behaved appropriately during the whole affair, despite a series of grovelling apologies today. But Mr Johnson has also repeatedly claimed that he thought he was at a work event for the gathering he was fined by by the Metropolitan Police. He played down the severity of the incident despite it making him … [Read more...] about Dominic Cummings claims Boris often said ‘I’m the f***ing Fuhrer around here’

Tukapa ready for latest round of the CMK premier club rugby competition
Tukapa co-coach Ben Siffleet doesn’t feel hard done by. His team was the only unbeaten side after the watered-down version of the first round in the CMK premier club rugby competition yet walked away with nothing. Saturday’s opponents New Plymouth Old Boys (NPOB) bagged finals hosting rights despite winning two matches but relied on their other afternoon teams to increase their chances to host the day. They also claimed prize money from Taranaki Rugby. Siffleet said he knew what they were in for when the changes to the season were announced. “We knew the rules at the start,” he said. “As a club we are building great depth across the four [afternoon] teams.” He managed to give the large premier squad “good minutes” in the opening three weeks. With the second instalment of the cross-town rivalry on Saturday at Sanders Park, Siffleet will look at combinations as the second round kicks off. “We want to play consistent footy and keep building each week,” he said. It … [Read more...] about Tukapa ready for latest round of the CMK premier club rugby competition

Monday morning news briefing: Emmanuel Macron’s election victory
After a polarising contest, Emmanuel Macron has become the first French president in 20 years to be elected for a second straight term. Close to tears, he insisted that he owed his re-election to reluctant voters who backed him to keep Marine Le Pen out of power . Standing in front of the Eiffel Tower, Mr Macron said: "Many of our compatriots voted for me not out of support for my ideas but to block those of the extreme Right." He told those who abstained or voted for Ms Le Pen that he understood their anger, adding: "I know how much I owe to you." Yet Ms Le Pen celebrated the result as taking her closer to power than ever . France correspondent Henry Samuel examines what is in Mr Macron's in-tray for his five-year term and Europe editor James Crisp explains why it will not mean a swift end to Brexit tensions with France. Thursday morning UK news briefing: Rishi Sunak to extend energy bills relief for every household
Every household in the country will get extra money taken off their energy bills this autumn under a new cost of living support package to be unveiled by Rishi Sunak today. The Chancellor is set to announce an increase to the £200 saving unveiled earlier in the year and scrap plans to make people pay back the amount over the coming years. To fund the move, he will announce an oil and gas windfall tax that will see the amount companies pay linked to how much they invest. The multi-billion pound package is also expected to include new "targeted" support for the poorest households, possibly through Universal Credit or extra help for pensioners. Partygate insider claims security guard was mocked when he tried to break up No 10 lockdown party
A DOWNING Street security guard was mocked for trying to stop a lockdown breaking party, a whistle-blower claimed today. BBC Panorama say they have three anonymous No10 staff members who took part in regular rule-breaking events during Covid restrictions - two of whom were fined themselves. One said a Downing Street security guard, known as a custodian, was mocked when he tried to break up one rule-breaking party. "I remember when a custodian tried to stop it all and he was just shaking his head in this party, being like 'This shouldn't be happening'," they claimed. The latest claims come one the eve of Sue Gray's partygate report being published - and the PM receiving one fine from the cops for breaking the rules But according to the BBC the insiders say they felt lockdown breaking bashes were condoned by Boris Johnson as he "was grabbing a glass for himself".
