Sales of London's most expensive homes may be cooling, but in two areas they've never been higher. The latest Lloyds house price index has found that while sales of London properties may be down 8%, the number of high-end house sales has soared in Wales and the West Midlands. In the first half of 2018, there was a 100% increase in the number of million pound plus homes sold in Wales, followed by a 67% increase in the East Midlands, and a 19% rise in the West Midlands. However, the picture was less positive in other areas of the country with the biggest drop was in the North East, which saw a 38% fall in the sale of million pound plus homes (from 13 in the first half of 2017 to 8 in the first half of 2018). It may not be not a region renowned for glitz and glamour but the East Midlands is emerging as an unlikely hotbed for million pound homes, figures suggest. Sales of homes worth a million pounds or over in the region rose by 67 per cent in the first half of last year (up to 40 from 24), as the number being sold in London and the South fell, new house price data from Lloyds Bank Private Banking has revealed. Over the same period there was a 100 per cent increase in the number of million pound plus homes sold in Wales during the first half of 2018, (up to 18 from 9 in 2017). Meanwhile the sale of million pound plus homes in London continued to decline, down by 8 per cent from 3,940 homes in the first half of 2017 to 3,628 in the first half of … [Read more...] about Is the East Midlands becoming the new hotspot for million pound homes?
A BALLYMONEY lady has beat Channel 4’s The Million Pound Drop scooping an amazing £25,000 at the weekend. Natasha McVicker of Hamilton Park and her friend Clare Mullan of Castlerock appeared live alongside television presenter Davina McCall on last Friday and Saturday’s programme. Not only friends but also colleagues at Waterside Dental Practice in Coleraine, Natasha and Clare were given 1million pound on the Friday night and were asked to answer and bet on eight questions to keep the money. Natasha explained: “We appeared on the Friday nights show and did quite well - to our amazement. Although we didn’t know any of the answers we managed to carry some of the money through the whole night by getting the questions right. Unfortunately we ran out of time as the show is live and it had come to the end of the show. This meant we had £50,000 left and had to come back and do it all again on the Saturday night. “Obviously we were delighted to be … [Read more...] about Natasha’s Million Pound Drop success
Designs have been released of a multi-million pound housing estate - as building work is set to start on the development of 128 homes and apartments. The properties - off Lichfield Street, in Hanley - will be available for rent and the estate should be finished in 2020. The project is being delivered by Fortior Homes – which is owned by Stoke-on-Trent City Council – and comes 10 years after the local authority bought the land before it was cleared following a failed regeneration programme. Council leaders hope the development will ensure professionals remain in the city and they say high-quality city centre rental properties can help achieve that vision. Councillor Randy Conteh, cabinet member for housing, said: “This is all about offering quality. Hanley is on the up and we have already purchased some houses in the city centre. “We are targeting working people who don’t need big family-size properties. We have an emerging jobs market and workers already … [Read more...] about Designs released of multi-million pound housing estate in Stoke-on-Trent
