LONDON (Reuters) - The party of Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the comedian-turned-politician who became Ukraine’s president, looks to have unstoppable momentum ahead of Sunday’s parliament vote. Latest polls show his Servant of the People party -- named after his TV show -- has extended its lead over other groups to ride high at over 40%. The next biggest party has barely more than 10%, meaning Zelenskiy could win commanding control of the assembly for his promises to crack down on corruption and lift living standards. Asian markets fell again Thursday with Hong Kong suffering a second straight day of heavy losses as investors fret over the impact of protests in the city and plans to introduce a controversial law allowing extradition to China. Equities were once more deep in negative territory owing to uncertainty over the China-US trade saga and following a tepid inflation report out of Washington, while oil prices were wallowing at five-month lows on supply and demand fears. While the protests have subsided for now the market was down 1.6 percent in the morning, extending the previous day's 1.7 percent loss. And with Beijing backing the law, observers warned the issue could have a detrimental effect on the mainland. "Beijing’s push for this extradition bill could … [Read more...] about Hong Kong leads way again in fresh Asia market sell-off
Samuel Stebbins 24/7 Wall Street Published 6:00 AM EDT May 19, 2019 Incomes climbed faster in 2017 for the typical American household than they have in years. The median household income of $60,336 in 2017 marked a 4.7% increase from the previous year – more than doubled the 2.1% inflation rate over the same period. The 2017 median household income of $60,336 marks a historic high and generally means greater wealth and buying power than in recent years. Clearly, however, incomes are not even nationwide, and while some areas are undoubtedly poorer, in dozens of thriving American cities, the majority of households earn over 20% more than the national median. 24/7 Wall St. reviewed median household income data from the U.S. Census Bureau for 381 U.S. metro areas to identify the 25 richest American cities. Though spread across the country, from New England to Alaska, the cities on this list tend to have much in common.
