Thai cave rescue The world is watching with bated breath as divers and rescue crews work to free 12 boys and their coach from a flooded cave in northern Thailand, where they've been trapped for more than two weeks. So far, five boys have been rescued. Yesterday, four boys were carried to safety. Rescue operations resumed this morning, and as of 6 a.m. ET, a fifth boy has been successfully brought out through the complex tunnels of the cave system. While the rescue process is long and treacherous, Thai authorities seem optimistic. A Syrian air base came under missile fire on Monday morning after President Bashar al-Assad triggered international outrage by carrying out a suspected chemical attack in a besieged suburb of Damascus. The US and France both denied attacking the base after Syrian state broadcasters said explosions were heard at the T-4 airfield near Homs, which is close to the ancient city of Palmyra in central Syria. At least 14 people are thought to have been killed in the strike in the early hours of this morning, which some analysts have suggested came from Israel. Israel has so far declined to comment. A Syrian military source was quoted in local media as saying air defences shot down eight missiles fired at the base, where defence analysts say there are large deployments of Russian forces, and where jets fly regular sorties to strike rebel-held areas.
